Hi everybody.
'er indoors wants to buy an E-Book reader and I don't know anything about them apart from Kindle. She would want to download books from the Library primarily.
Has anybody got first hand experience of these gizmos that they could share and perhaps some recommendations please?
The basic Kindle works very well, obviously you have to pay for books from the Amazon store. I wouldn't bother with the 3G versions the WiFi version can be loaded with many weeks supply
We use Kobo readers, a lot cheaper than Kindle without all the hype, loads almost any kind of book format. Two types of reader, touch screen and button operated, I use the touch and missus uses the other ( prefers it says touch not sensitive enough) re-charge battery seems to last forever, I would recommend to anybody. :thumb:

Another vote for the Kindle. My wife has had her Kindle for 18 months and loves it. The Amazon Kindle site also offers an excellent - and daily changing - library of free books. Customer Service is also first-class. My daughter bought her Kindle in Canada. It started rattling and after a quick chat to Amazon UK a replacement was in the post. They didn't even ask for her old Kindle back.

Hello everybody - thanks for all the advice - which she chose to ignore :blush:.....
So she has bought a Sony, the reason being that good as they may be, the Kindle was a non-starter as she didn't want to be tied to Amazon, rather than that she wanted to be able to get free books from the library.
In fact free books from anywhere, but more of that later...
So she's bought a Sony, and got quite a good deal as it was last years model I think. We are just waiting for delivery.
So - next question is where is a good resource for free e-books and do the Amazon ones ONLY work on the Kindle? On the Amazon site they do say "Download to your Kindle or other device"... or some such words.
Google have a large collection of books, both free and paid for https://play.google.com/store/books
You can download the Amazon books to your PC then to another device, but they may need to be converted for the Sony to read the books.
I am not aware of any libraries that offer free books for EReaders as there are copyright issues. Happy to be proved wrong. I think that my wife has spent about £5 on Amazon in the past 18 months and has about 600 good reads in her library.
Edit: just checked our country library website and they are now offering EBooks. They have kept that one very quiet - I wonder why?
