Title: zone alarm pro
Post by: sobranie on Jun 23, 2007, 20:24:17
Subject program now becoming an absolute p.i.t.a.
Anyone using an alternative other than Norton?
Your comments would be much appreciated.

My dad uses AGV and hes pleased with it.

I have used  Bullguard security in the past and thats very good. If it finds a problem but cannot solve it (such as a very nasty/clever trojan) then you submit an auto-completed report via internet and you receive an email back with clear instructions on how to remove it.

You can get a 3 month free trial of Bullguard and i beleive there is also a free trial for AVG.

Comodo has been voted the best firewall for a while but its antivirus sucks. Firewall is free.

also note for gamers who know what a burdon anti-virus programs can be to gaming, check this out. I have no idea what its like, just thought it was interesting i suppose. Looks like its based on Bullguard to me, but charging £30 a year.

follow link then click the 'security' tab

That website has some really really wierd products on it for the ultimate non-social person. lol @ the gaming gloves to avoid RSI from holding mouse for hours. there are some odd people out there.

ZONE ALARM PRO is a firewall.

Paid, look at Agnitum Outpost.

Free and just as good are Comodo,or Filseclab. If you are behind a router then provided you have the latest firmware the Windows firewall is effective against inbound traffic, you just won't have the info for outgoing connections.
The other product which is excellent and in free or paid versions is Sunbelt Kerio Firewall.

I'd say Nod32 for antivirus (although they do currently have beta running for its av + firewall solution (www.wilderssecurity.com)

For firewall (i dont use a software one as im naughty) i would foremost rely on a hardware one but i found zone alarm bloated somewhat

Zone alarm pro now ditched in favour of Comodo firewall and looking good, very good in fact.
JFTR my 'puter was taking anything up to 10 minutes to load with ZA pro being the culprit according to msconfig settings. Now it's loading in 50 seconds with Comodo so my thanks to Supanova for the info.
ZA pro was also blocking torrents on a purely random basis ..... what a load of absolute cr*p that prog was.
I also run NOD32, a superb av prog.
Many thanks to you all for your replies.

In addition to my previous posts re. ZAP;
I note that my d/l speed with Gigabyte checker has increased from 6500 to over 7000. Coincidence maybe but I will keep monitoring and post if things take a dive.

Sounds about right,ZAP is known to be shall we say over zealous.
