Title: Firefox 14.0.1
Post by: zappaDPJ on Jul 21, 2012, 12:12:54
I'm just wondering if anyone else is having problems with it. I'm finding it unusable because it keeps freezing plus it logs me out of every website when I shut it down.

OK, this is really annoying me now. It's logging me out of these forums while I'm making a post, tossing my content into cyberspace. It's not happening with other browsers so it's definitely an FF issue :( I'll try reinstalling it.

FWIW, no such issues on SeaMonkey, and I've just remembered, I was using FF last night, after updating, with no problems.

I'm using it with no problems so far, Zap.

Cheers. I've done a bit of research and although I can find nothing about the failure to keep logged in, the net is awash with freezing reports. I think I'll still attempt a reinstall though.

The login problem has to be a cookie issue.  Have you checked that it has retained your cookies from the last version, and that it is still set to store cookies from your designated websites?

working fine here, Zap. I would not say awash, but its an issue for some, once again I guess it could depends on plugins too. Have you got the latest Flash player 11.3.300.265? Flash seems to bring many things to a halt.

No issues here Zap, maybe its set to block cookies and not remember anything?

As far as I can tell all my previous settings pertaining to cookies have transferred between versions correctly. It's all bit of a mystery at the moment. I'm getting logged out of these forums on a regular basis which certainly does suggest it's a cookie issue ('Always stay logged in:' is checked). I'll keep looking but thanks for the suggestions.

Have you got a backup of your FF profile, which includes the cookie file, Zap?  Just wondering if it might be worth exchanging the current cookie file with a backup?

I've tried that but it didn't help unfortunately. I'm currently removing all my developer add-ons to see if that helps. I do use an awful lot of stuff that most people wouldn't have a need for like Firebug so it could be one of those I guess.

Does it not have the feature SeaMonkey does, of being able to start without add-ons, ie, in a kind of safe mode?  I think it's in either the Tools or Help menu on SM.

Well you can disable them but whether or not that amounts to loading without any trace of them, that I'm not sure about.
