Title: Intermittent connectivity to Usenetserver.com
Post by: endpoint101 on May 12, 2012, 12:58:02
Over the past week I've been having intermittent problems with my usenet client (Alt.Binz 0.25.0) connecting to secure.usenetserver.com - this is happening on 2 PC, both running Win7. One hardwired, and one on wifi. The same kit + configuration has been in place for a year or two without any problems whatsoever & no upgrades to s/w applied at all.

Some times it'll not connect, retry without any luck & stay that way. Then some time later all is well & it's running at full pelt. I'm in the process of checking with them (they say there aren't any reported problems), but wondered if anyone else is seeing similar issues?

The BT Homehub isn't showing anything strange (nothing odd on the line, etc). Standard browsing is okay.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Matt.

Try a traceroute when it's working well, then another when you have problems, it may show a routing issue.

The guys at Usenetserver were really helpful.. apparently they'd been updating their SSL implementation and that may have had a knock-on for older Usenet clients. I was using the really old, but free, version of Alt.Binz.

It's quite fortunate that the developer released a new version of the free client a few months ago.. the first time he's done that in a few years & installing the new version seems to have cured the issue.

Thanks,

Matt.
