Title: A probably stupid iTunes question...
Post by: Simon on May 03, 2012, 12:28:34
I bought a cheap album from iTunes, and have had it sitting on my phone ever since.  It's not particularly great, but I don't want to get rid of it, yet, don't really want it taking up space on my phone either.  Can I remove it from iTunes, but still keep a copy of it on my PC?

You should be able to, it'll ask whether you want to move the files to the recycke bin or just keep them.

So, presumably, it would 'keep them' within the iTunes Library, if I selected that option?  I've always moved to recycle bin before, as most of the stuff in my iTunes is CDs I own anyway.

If you select the Keep files option it'll remove them from the Library but they will be retained on your hard disk.

If you'll bear with me, I'll try it tonight on my own PC and confirm the behaviour.

If you want Simon, when you go into iTunes on your PC you can see "Purchased" on the right hand side which you can just download the music when ever you want. This will mean you don't have to have it on your PC at all. :)

These purchases will never disapear and will be held by your Apple ID

As pctech mentioned, if you're syncing your iTunes library with you phone and you don't want that particular album to sync just delete it and it will give you the option of keeping the album or move it to the trash.

Simon, it handles purchases differently and it will remove them from your system but as TheMonkey says you can retrieve your purchases from the purchases section.

I guess for want of a better term that's a function of 'iTunes in the Cloud'

Thanks guys.  I'll have a look later.  As I said, 95% of the stuff I have in iTunes is my own CDs, so I've not come across this before.
