...at the moment for me.
any one else got the same
It's been slow at times throughout the day Baz. It took approx 45 - 60 seconds to post a reply just now.
yeah thats about the same for me Glenn
It was completely unresponsive from about 12:30-12:45, Baz. :(
Now and then when I post the forum goes slow, never used to be like this :( I know I'm not a regular but its really annoying.
any ideas why Rik :dunno:
seems to be just the forum for me and Pals was too
We have been told it's something to do with a website that we share the server with.

Small end of a pipe with a website that has a higher priority then, Glenn. :(
We do seem to be further down on the food chain. :(

:( Says a lot without having to use words really. The help site for their own product should have a higher priority. :shake:
I'm a little surprised this has only just been reported as the forums have been running slow or unreachable for a while now. Perhaps it's just that members can't report it if the site is not responding. It would be useful to know how much disruption this is actually causing so if you are having problems please leave a post here even if it's after the event. Thanks :)
Now sticky...
Slow from here too at random times.
I moved to Zen just over a month ago and had put the slowness of IDNetters down to no longer being on the same network. Although everything else is normal and fast. Looks like it has nothing to do with my change of provider if IDNet subscribers are experiencing slowness too.
It's one of the co-hosted sites on the server we share, JB. It hogs all the resources at certain times, and the forum just stops or slows down to an unworkable pace, eg 2 minutes to load a page. We've also had a competition, possibly on the same site, which took us out for some time due to 75,000 people trying to enter it.

Thanks for the info Rik, nice and reassuring. I guess when you make a change you are always suspecting something you are not too familiar with.
Pouring down here in Cheshire with an really strong easterly wind. 18C and sunny on the Costa Blanca. Have got lots to do outside here in UK for the next two months but the WX isn't helping one bit.
I think we're under the same cloud, JB, it's weird to think it was warm and dry a month ago. :)
It started here about 7am yesterday, I don't think it has stopped for more than an hour since.
Ditto. Still, we only need about another 180 days like this to replenish the aquifers. :)
Ditto again. I'm getting fed up with it now!
Sane here, but they'll probably say it's the wrong type of rain. ::)
Anyway back to the original topic, so far today, the forum has been fine, no slow downs.
I'd noticed. I wonder what's changed.
yeah seems better today.
is that other site the cycle related one Rik.
I wonder if their site slows down too though
We don't know what the other site is, Baz.
We don't know, Baz. Apart from Pals, we've never known who's co-hosted since the server move.
There's an echo in here... ;)
This might help you find the site ;)
Some sites may not show on that list if they've had another IP address set.
the business sites on the server are probably slow on wet Sundays ;)
It's ironic that one of the sites on Pauls list is www.sustainabledrainage.co.uk
Might need their services if this rain continues.

You do know "Cloud" is just a new word for "server" right? A new word with twice the cost.
I hope IDNet's servers aren't this wet, Ben.
Indeed Ben, it's a marketing term as is utility computing.
That's a new one to me. Does utility computing run on Gas, water and electric?
They replaced the mice in the wheels then.
10.07 it took approx 60 seconds to post a reply and another 15 seconds to open this reply.
10:45 - 90 seconds to post a reply.

Depends on the specific Data Centre but the idea is that the customer has no care about the equipment used to provide the service as is the case with electricity i.e. you don't think about the gas or nuclear power plant.
It's interchangeable with cloud computing really.
Average page load times 30-60 seconds, 14:10 onwards... :(
Very slow here on 3G as well right now.
It's not only 3G
mine seems better today but noticed a bit slow yesterday night.
strange ???
10-60 second load time here from work (1 Gbps Cable and Wireless fibre)
Unreachable for me all last night with highly variable loading times this afternoon e.g.

That bar is always there but SMF, the forum software, is coded to a high enough standard so that you normally wouldn't see it or at worst it might appear very briefly. That fact that it's just hanging there, something I've personally seen a lot in the last few weeks, is another indication that the host server is not responding well.
In fact 'not responding well' has just been not responding at all for the last half hour or so. At least that's how it's been for me.
ah right cheers Zap.
i'm now getting a mix of ok loading then sluggish then back again
It's the same for me Baz. I know IDNet are aware there are problems, hopefully something will be done about it soon :fingers:
There's certainly something strange going on- it was completely unresponsive for about an hour earlier on, but I could ping it with times of ~10-15mSec.
I'd also taken the liberty of setting up a BQM to it earlier in the day- not good:
(http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share-thumb/5895f43b91553bb224f27efd1760292e-01-05-2012.png) (http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share/5895f43b91553bb224f27efd1760292e-01-05-2012.html)
But even with all that red I can still ping it from here :dunno:
Routing problem maybe?
Yep, I couldn't get on these forums until now.

Never mind... I suspect the server thought it was a DoS attack and stopped answering :red:
I've deleted it.
Forum is now taking about 30 seconds to receive a post :(
At this very moment, it seems to be working normally.
BT didn't donate the server that used to run the speedtest did they?

is there another competition on the other site again
Not noticed any slowdown here. Yet :fingers:
I have. It's terribly erratic today.
It's slow loading for me today, again.

Not even consistent. :(
I'd say either the server is dying on it's arse, or one other site is using something that pulls in information that puts the server under massive load. Completely different scenario, but in my old counterstrike admin days, we used to see this happen when something was compiled incorrectly when building stats packages that linked to AMX mod on the servers.
It just stalled on me again. ::)

I've just waited about three minutes, and gave up.
Do you have cPanel access? you should be able to see the server load if its enabled for your account.
URL should be something like : urdomain.com:port#/frontend/x3/status.html
(http://psp83.co.uk/pics/server-load.jpg)
If the load is low when the server is responding slow then its most likely a hardware issue, if its high, then its something using a lot of resources on the server.
A server should really stay below 2 on the load, mines slightly high now as a backup restore is running.
But on a shared server you would expect to see it go above 2 often.
It's currently showing as: 10.49 (2 cpus) with a red exclamation mark beside it, so there's obviously something wrong.
I think it's safe to assume that one or other websites on the same hardware as the forum is at times consuming a significant proportion of the available resources ie a bleeding parasite.
I'll buy a spare Raspberry PI, put the forum software on it and send it to Simon Davies and ask him to put it on top of one their servers in a rack with just a network and power connection.
Problem solved.
You're on, Mitch. :thumb:
I bet even putting it on a small celeron box would be an improvement.
A small cereal box would be an improvement at times! I could count corn flakes while waiting for the forum to load. ::)

It's got to be impacting other sites too.
0.148/28 queries
apologies for my earlier bad typing, would one of the mods do a correction please.
I dipped in a few times today and all was well after this morning.

It's been intermittently slow for me all morning. In fact I've lost a couple of posts to cyberspace because of a time-out.
Lost one earlier, but generally it's been better.
I think we have a winner!

Great minds... ;)

It's been pretty bad since yesterday but I'm finding it a lot better just now. Most pages are being returned within a second, it's just the occasional page taking up to 10 seconds more.
Fine here
