Only been connected for half an hour so far and the speed is still low (21/8). Does anyone know how long it takes for the DLM to relax completely? The engineer said I was syncd at 40/10.

I got full download from install, might be worth checking your IP proflie but saying that I couldn't for a few days post install. You need to ensure that any equipment your side of the modem is not throttling the connection ie those speeds are typical of my WiFi connections when upstairs from the router. Also your router needs to be up to the task.

I'm working from home today and there's a certain irony that the connection at the office is only 4/2. Unfortunately it's in a village and although BT have done that down they haven't done that cab. But it comes to something when the thing slowing me down is a connection that my multi-national, multi billion dollar employer had installed. Two bonded lines as well :laugh:

Interesting, that was my laptop because the wired computer is on a VPN. I'll disconnect that and try again.
Ah ha. Sort of. The desktop machine is still reporting low speeds but my laptop when wired is giving 36/8.
Guess I'll have to optimise the laptop connection if I can. The desktop is an old, cr*p thing so no surprise if it runs low.

Yeah, that's from TBB and Speedtest.net.
Right. Switched to using the WNR1000 and with up to 150Mb/s I'm seeing 28 down, 7 up. That's better but still not as fast as wired. Not that I'm particularly surprised since I've always thought wired was a compromise - it's just that these days that's what I mostly use. It's a bit of a shame if I'm maxing out at 30Mb/s - makes upgrading to 80/20 rather pointless :shake:
I've seen 36 mbps via WiFi through one thin wall on both the 2.5 and 5 Ghz N networks which is full throughput for me.
Looks like it's probably down to Bruce Hornsby(*). My laptop only supports the 2.4GHz band and there's nearly a dozen people using it around here. Apparently for maximum speed you need multiple adjacent channels and I don't think that's ever going to be possible. I'm the only one using 13 (chosen because I believe that most WAPs won't auto-select it because it's not available in the US). Tonight I'll try forcing the WNR to channel 11 or 12. I forced it to 13 but then it only used one channel. Maybe its logic is 'use the specified channel or greater' when you override auto.
In auto (as I've seen before) it picks the most crowded area, channel 6. I've never understood why that happens but I have a silly theory that the techies do it to ensure that higher channels stay free for people who are more knowledgeable :evil:
