Title: Flash issue
Post by: Niall on Apr 07, 2012, 22:03:14
Not sure if this is just me, or it's a general problem.

I noticed before that suddenly anything that needed Flash, wasn't running. I have the latest version of flash, and java installed. I've even uninstalled it all, run cleaners, etc and it still won't work. It's a bit of a pain in the rear as pretty much every photography site I view has a flash plug in of one sort or another. MSN messenger is also saying I need to install Flash.

I'm at a loss. The new Flash download installs both 32 and 64bit with one install, unlike previous versions, which is where the problem arose last time I saw this. I had to install a separate 32bit install for it to work, but now it seems this isn't available.

Anyone have any ideas?

Okay, that's typical. As I posted this, it started working again. Obviously there was a problem and something must have been using a borked file until I closed everything. Maybe. I dunno, though it's working now, god knows why ;D

As someone that supports lots of flash based bits of software for a living I can tell you that its a law unto itself.

It will suddely stop and then start working again.

I'm not permitted to advise people on adjusting securty software settings because obviously I and my colleagues can't maintain a working knowledge of all of the stuff out there but TBH I often put it down the actions of this as quite rightly the securuty firms have to include flash in the stuff that their heuristic analysis engine check (a heuristic analysis engine looks at the patten of a file and its actions and makes a guess as to whether it could be malicious in the absence of a matching pattern in the signature files, this can sometimes cause a false positive)

I had it working intermittently. The animation for the BBC radio page loaded in firefox, but did not load the play button. :P
In chrome it worked fine.  :dunno:

All is still well. It must be related to the latest update. Rather than it being a full update, it was just a small batch file. Possibly it didn't install correctly as it was in use at the time or something else was holding the file in the AV software. Whatever it was, it's cleared up now, and I can once again see slideshows on deviant art, etc :D

There tends to be a slim and full install, from what I can gather the slim one runs when flash is detected as being present and the full when it isn't.

Still cannot get the bbc radio player working in FF. Will try a reinstall of flash if I can get around to it. :/

All working here with firefox, I do always use the uninstaller when updating though especially when its between big updates like 11.2 which has loads of new features.
