Title: No fibre in my street but fibre at my exchange, I need an explanation I guess
Post by: Noelle on Apr 06, 2012, 23:47:07
Hello and Happy Easter!

I have a question: my exchange is fibre-activated and has been for 18 months or so. But I cannot have fibre as my street doesn't have fibre. Is there a way to know what a street/area of a town is going to be fibre activated?

Thanks!

I don't think there is an ETA that specific. I could be wrong though, but my exchange is showing as enabled at the end of the year, but there are no post codes. I suppose it'll depend on businesses nearest the exchange first, then I'd have thought the larger areas. That being said, Den on these boards lives about 3 miles up the road from me and is on a smaller exchange, covering less people and they're getting fibre before the main exchange in Wrexham, so god knows how it works!

Unfortunately, it's almost impossible as the cabinets are activated at different times, and in some areas, planning issues mean there can be no cabinets.

There are folk on Thinkbroadband that have Openreach databases with the cabinets to be activated.

In my town, they started by the western part 18 months ago and seem to have stopped since them but I'm at the Ashford - Kent exchange and I read somewhere that this exhchange with 4 or 5 others in the UK would be used by BT as pilot exchanges for ultra fast broadband - up to 300 meg. Does someone have more information on this matter?
