With all the fuss over Google's new privacy policies I've been looking at alternatives. DuckDuck Go was one, but I came across this one: https://startpage.com/uk/
I imagine it routes all search queries via a proxy, having filtered out any Google tracking stuff. It appears to work OK, albeit a little slowly although that could be because my connection has gone bad as of this morning.
Use at your own risk etc....
If you have a Google account, you can turn the tracking off apparently.
www.dogpile.com is another.
I particularly like the 'Go Fetch' search.

Just tried it and it seems pretty good. :) Does make you wonder whether Google are starting to overreach themselves and people will start looking in earnest for alternatives. We might return to something like old times with Yahoo, alta-vista etc competing for attention, which must be a good thing.
And, I've not even mentioned the Google tracking device which appears to be taking the market by storm.....

You can clear history. https://www.google.com/history
Removing your Web History also pauses it. Web History will remain off until you enable it again.
Note that disabling Web History in your Google account will not prevent Google from gathering and storing this information and using it for internal purposes. It also does not change the fact that any information gathered and stored by Google could be sought by law enforcement.

I had forgotten about Dogpile, years ago it was the search engine of choice for many of us, until we were seduced by Google :'(
