Title: BT Availability Checker
Post by: Ardua on Dec 11, 2011, 11:48:24
Just noticed that the BT Wholesale Checker has deleted all reference to FTTC cabinet RFS dates for my number. Checking TBB, I am not alone!

Edit:

Just checked the IDNet number checker and it shows that there are no plans to enable my exchange with FTTC. SamKnows still shows a RFS of 1/12/2011. Checker gliche perhaps?

The RFS date, up until this morning, has always been 31 December 2011. My street has 2 powered (but not yet running) FTTC cabinets and Carillion, Western Power and OR vans can be seen out and about everyday.

Just checked the BT Care Community Forum and posters state that it is often the case that all reference to FTTC enablement can be removed from the Checker just prior to an exchange going live. As Brucie would say 'just keep on checking'!

Still says 2012 for me. I fully expect a working FTTC by January the 1st ;D

It says 2012, but not which calendar they are going off of. Perhaps they are going by Hobbit chronology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle-earth_calendar#Hobbit_Calendar)?

The BT Checker is still not showing any reference to FTTC on my number. I have just noticed that my connection speed has fallen (at 11am this morning) from 17.5 to 9.2. I have checked all the usual suspects. Could the fall be associated with work at the exchange/cabinet relating to FTTC? There are many OR vans out and about with little tents and much activity.

I had a lot of disruption when OR were putting in the new cabinets.

Thanks Rik. I think that there may be a line fault. I cannot ring out and when I ring in the phone rings but immediately disconnects. I will try to get TT and get them to run a line check.

Just noticed that my downstream attenuation has risen from 15 to 28. I can get a dial tone on the phone but it will not ring out. Calls inwards will ring but then disconnect on pickup. Any thoughts/advice? I have contacted IDNet and my phone provider by e-mail but no responses as yet. BB now down from 17+ to 8.8.

Same here, It was saying 31st Dec 2011 the other day.

We have several small (new) FTTC boxes installed around this area and the one I'm connected to had a "telnet" van working on it today with a cable connected to it and connected to a machine in his van.

Hoping they have enabled it and the website checkers are being updated.

Here's a pic of the cabs they have installed around our area

The voice provider needs to get the line sorted first, once that's done, if the ADSL problem remains, IDNet can take a look.

Got a helpful response from TT this morning - or so I thought. Dashed out to buy a corded phone and ran a test from the test socket. No dial tone or incoming ring. Running the DECT phones from the test socket gave the same results as last night ( I think that the difference is probably down to a difference in REN numbers). I spent 15 minutes trying to find a geographic rather than 0870 number for TT and then spent a further 30 minutes talking to someone in India. They have now concluded that after running more tests and noting the fall in downstream attenuation that I have a line fault. I suspect that it is the same fault that I had earlier this year; unfortunately, the phone line didn't fail so TT (and for that matter IDNet for understandable reasons) weren't really interested. I suspect that my line has a bad joint that has got worse as a result of all the rain that we have had recently and the open covers to permit FTTC installation. Looking on the bright side of things as I await an engineer visit, we still have broadband - albeit, 50% slower than this time yesterday - and I might get a more assured telephone line just before I switch to FTTC.

Thanks Glenn. The thing that concerns me is that my current phone line comes in the back, the magic box is out the front

Only BT know, sadly, but it's happened before with lines going to a distant exchange, rather than a close one. :sigh:

My exchange is 1.76km distant, nearest one to me is probably a lot closer than that
