Hello, just returned to IDNet after 6 months abroad and very glad I did.Ok my question is: I have never had a lap top so I have never had the use for,is it wireless or wi fi? anyway my grand daughter bought my wife a lap top and naturally she want's to use it.This is what I "think"I know,I go into my router and tick enable wireless and apply, then look at lap top and see that it sees my pc (SSID) and then asks for a the passphrase I put it in and in connects ok,so far so good, when I un-tick enable wireless in my router and the lap top loses connection which I'm guessing that's what should be happening so I'm ok so far (I think) the bit that concerns me is that when I want to connect the lap top now is does so without requesting the passphrase, does that mean that anyone can connect with any lap top while I have my wireless enabled or is it just my wifes lap top that can do this as it has stored the passphrase.Lastly can I change the SSID and passphrase at any time I like,if so could you please tell me how to safely do this.Very sorry for the long and noob type post but I need to get this right and would be very grateful for any advice and to tell me if I'm doing anything wrong.
Kind regards
Chris
PS I'm using a netgear DGN1000 if that helps
Everything reads fine. You can change the SSID to suit, the passphrase is usually stored by default in the connecting machine, obviously some are quite complex so to memorise is not practical. Only a knowledge of the correct passphrase will permit connection to your router. Lastly you can choose different levels of security, WPA2 - personal is recommended over WEP.

Can't add to the above, Christopher, but :welc: :karma:
