Title: I don't believe it.
Post by: Tanzanite on Jun 08, 2007, 09:48:21
Yet again I have noise and echos worse than ever that I can hear on the phone. I've only just had it fixed!  It's worse than before he fixed it.
I did hear a slight noise and echo last week but was trying to ignore it and put it down to it being my ears lol there's no way I can ignore this.

So looks like it is still that that is interfering with my noise on the line.

So do I ask the ex bt man for a new extension to be put in?

I'm not sure a new extension would cure echoes, Eve. I'd suggest a word with support.

It's crackles as well. Same problem as before, was fixed, now it's gone again.
I have just emailed Simon and told him but I thought it was up to me as it's my prob according to BT?

If it's your wiring, yes it would be up to you. However, are you sure it's your wiring, the echo is not likely to be?

It was last time. When I listened to phone in the test socket, it was fine. Will do it again to see if it's there or not this time round.

A locally-generated echo would indicate that much is amiss. It would be worth checking your phones are not the cause, also disconnect the Sky boxes.

Remember my noise margin falls when I take the sky boxes out lol The phone is a new one I bought when I had the problem last time and it was the same on both.

Sounds like I need a whole new rewiring job for the phone sockets, rip the lot out and start again lol

If you do, use CAT5e cable, that should be the end of your problems for once and for all!

I read a thread on here about someone trying a billion 5200G router as it gave them an extra 1mg sync.
I got mine this morning and just set it up and I was gobsmacked. I am now getting over 2 1/2mg sync higher  ;D ;D ;D  This calls for a :banana2: :banana2: :banana2:  That's even with the noise and echos on my line. What would it be when it's fixed lmao.

My sync speed was average of 5100, noise margin of 15. Now it's:
Downstream     Upstream

SNR Margin

:7.5    21.0    db

Line Attenuation

:      45.0    21.5    db

Data Rate
   7616    448    kbp

What's with the noise margin though? It's lowered considerably since changing routers.

Anyway, I highly recommend everyone gets this router, it's amazing! Only cost around £36 too!

Noise margin reports can be a bit like Sky box signal quality, Eve. They vary between different makes and models. IAC, but achieving higher sync, the router would automatically obtain a lower noise margin. They key issue now is whether it can hold the connection.

That's true. Fingers crossed. I have never ever got such a high sync speed! The max has been around 6500 when I first went on Max with AOL.

I did have to reboot it after setting it up but it sync'd at same speed.
Will keep an eye on it over next few days but I am truely amazed.
It's saying the line attenuation is higher, was 42. But as you say each router is different. This one seems to love my line, at the moment anyway lol

Noise margin still looking good. Normally it's up and down like a yo yo constantly as you've seen from past routerstats graphs.
Here's the one for the new router.

Weirdly, this is my 4th router and the best one I've ever had. Never thought I could get such a high sync and steady-ish noise margin.
Just hope it stays like that and my profile rises in next few days and get my extension socket fixed again.
