Title: Software question
Post by: coolharvey on Jun 08, 2007, 07:21:35
Guys,

Always on the lookout for something better than Microsoft.

Use Outlook (has the features I want) - but I've found an alternative - Barca, by an outfit called Poco Systems.

Anybody tried it - good thoughts or bad??

At first sight it's great. Appearance, features etc. However it keeps hanging. Just wondered if it was me, or perhaps it's just not worth the download.

I'm happy using Outlook at the moment, along with the rest of the Office suite of programs. It's one program that in my opinion Microsoft was done well with, ignoring the occasional patch/security update.

Never heard of Barca though, so I'm afraid I can't help!

I've been trying to avoid a 'me too' post, but, well, me too. :)

Hmm, Poco systems,spending money,noooooooooooo :-X

If you want something different that works and is free try out Open Office Suite.

There are too many excellent free email systems to be spending money like that.

As Lance says, Outlook is pretty good, and seems little out there to replace it.

Big fan of Open Office, and used to use Thunderbird, but find it more convenient to combine email with planner, calendar etc.

Dorset right too, no point spending money - especially just to satisfy a whim.

So - Outlook here to stay it seems.

I've discovered an Add-on for Thunderbird called "Lightning".

This adds a calendar function to Thunderbird, giving similar functionality to Outlook.

Not as slick - but it does the job.
