The BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15871961) reports that:

QuoteThe European Court of Justice has ruled that content owners cannot ask ISPs to filter out illegal content.

The ruling could have implications for the creative industries as they attempt to crack down on piracy.

The court said that while content providers can ask ISPs to block specific sites, wider filtering was in breach of the E-Commerce Directive.

BT does a lot of business in the States so I gather so they probably caved in to preserve that.

Probably noone as customers who know a thing or two use other companies don't they.

Is it because they can only block on legal grounds? An "accusation" is not in legal force until it becomes "proven". Something that sadly most of the content owners do not always do.

The day they are allowed to, everywhere will get a cease and desist letter, guilty or not (See ACS Law!!!).
