From approximately 5.50PM to 6.15PM I couldn't access Idnetters at all.

Yes, we believe there was a routing problem.
Me neither. I've been on the phone to Simon and an engineer is on site. All internal IDNet access was down, ie mail, theirr website, the forum etc. Simon thinks it's a switch problem which has been resolved. The outside world wasn't affected, eg BBC, Amazon etc. If I hear any more I'll update.
My idnet is totally down I'm syncing but authentication fails all the time
Same as above, Saying CHAP failed to authenticate
Are the two of you on Telefonica (LLU) connections?
I am yes
Yes I am too
My Telefonica connection failed as the more general outage started, I haven't been able to establish PPP since. Simon does know, but I'll pass on the corroboration.
Thanks Rik :), back to abusing my phones data connection in the mean time.
;D
Thanks Rik
Is it just the two of us who have a complete outage then?
Good old forums :) i lost my connection at home also (LLU based) @ 5:50. I have sync and a connection, router states CHAP authentication failed. Umm it also seems IDnet have got a middle line support, so i didn't get to talk to a technical person. Also abusing my mobile data! Why is this outage not noted on the website as its almost an hour old now?
Probably because they were busy trying to fix it. :)

Three but probably more who haven't found out yet. ;)
My Internet is also down, lets hope they fix it soon
Would be good if stuff like this was posted on the twitter feed, easier than updating the website :P

Simon is away from a computer, two of the support staff are off sick and the engineer on site doesn't have access to the network status page. I'm sure Simon will update asap - I've been speaking to him since the problem started.
I'm up again :D
Stop boasting.
So when did this not so technical call centre appeared from? I liked the direct technical support. Mine has yet to come back?
Ooops pride comes before a fall .. I should be more careful
Add me to the list. OH upset that mail kept showing strange messages on her IPad. All OK now on BTW CONNECTION.
I lost the lot too

It's there to provide an alternative to an answer machine out of hours, but it has limited functionality and we can generally get quicker access to IDNet with a major ooutage.
Connection has just returned for now :), also thanks for the info rik I was surprised when I git an answer I thought I dialed the wrong number!
Telefonica connections should now be restored, if you're still having problems, re-boot your router - if that doesn't work, power down for 15 minutes then try again.
The cause of the outage was a switch failure in Telecity. It's now been reloaded and all appears fine, IDNet can see traffic building on their Telefonica link.
My connection went down about 5:15pm too..... now back up and running.
Thanks for the posts\updates.
Pc-Pals was down as well. I thought it was the forum software as all other sites were OK
IDNet mail and website were also down, Lona.
:eek4: I seemed to suffer an earlier authentication problem from 1550-1711 on IDNet (FTTC) according to my router. Nothing on Zen or AAISP checkers though so I assume it was local to IDNet? The longest outage I've had recently.
That doesn't fit with the information on the network status page, the outage caused two problems, loss of access to IDNet hosted services, eg their website, mail, the forum, and disconnection (loss of PPP) for people connected via Telefonica.
Never mind: I did though pick up a host of messages from the RSS feed this morning relating to outages at disparate exchanges (not mine though) around east anglia at precisely that time relating to in some cases to an unspecified BT hardware fault and in others to "5750 switch problems at Norwich and Chelmsford" (latter is close by). I assume it was that, though I was a bit surpised that Zen and AAISP checkers showed (and still show) nothing. It was definitely a loss of PPP not synch though. No problem for me as I was out, and may be it's the vagaries of computer-generated gobbledgook! Normally I think you'd get a list of telephone codes affected but nothing like that. Coincidence that my problem ended as everyone else's started ;D
The malice of inanimate objects? ;)
I blame a little Norfolk devil who decided it was a nice day for a trip to docklands, causing mayhem as he went

I couldn't get on at all last night. Left the Router off and powered it on this morning before leaving for work. Hey presto, we're up and running tonight. :)
It obviously doesn't like you, Jimbo. ;)
