You can't on the 4S.There has been some discussion elsewhere I'll see if I can find it. It is still possible on the 3GS with IOS5 , the only option is to turn data off

Some claims have been made to a different hardware configuration in the 4S. I'm tending to charge the phone nightly so the lack of the power save to 2G has not been an issue for me!

I wonder why it's not possible on the 4S?  Something to do with the twin antennae, perhaps?  It's slightly irritating, because in a patchy 3G area, switching off 3G saves battery by stopping it from continually searching for a 3G signal (or, it used to), and it also enables web access via 2G, when sometimes a poor 3G signal will make it stall.

Has your screen improved, btw, Simon?

It looks like it, yes, unless I've just got used to it.  Oddly enough, it did actually seem better after the upgrade last night, but I think that was probably psychological, as I don't think it could have been affected, other than, perhaps, by a tweak to the brightness setting.  That said, there must be some sort of configuration for colour temperature within the OS, so perhaps they have done something, without actually admitting a fault?  Or have I got too used to BT?  ;D
