I see that several people have recently been switched to profile 17a from 8c. Have BT published a schedule for this switch over?
It's scheduled for November - December with the trials starting in January.
I've got the Openreach document covering this but I'm posting from the phone so I'll update this later.
Thanks Griff
Now I'm on the PC I can post properly.
Quote21/10/2011 For Information
This briefing confirms Openreach plans for roll-out of the network frequency plan (Bandplan) changes and our pilot plans for a new FTTC product variant. This is for all Communication Providers.
We are pleased to confirm that, over the coming months, we will be rolling out the plans that we announced to CPs at the 22 September 2011 NGA Triallist Working Group regarding the Bandplan and FTTC portfolio changes.
The ANFP change was agreed on 9 September 2011 and the updated ANFP document published. Therefore, the next steps for developing the band plan enabled 80/20 product are as follows:
Network upgrade October 2011 - January 2012.
The DSLAM profile changes will be competed in November 2011- January 2012. A draft, top level DSLAM migration plan is available in the NGA secure area of the Openreach portal and will be updated regularly.
Uplift of eMLC speed values to align to new frequency.
The plan is to upload MLC with the new 998ADE17 values so that 80/20 only based speed estimates will be displayed in MLC on 28 January 2012.
Some CPs wishing to cap these values should enable any systems by the above date.
Thanks for that griff. I'll keep watch for the change and hope to get on the trial.
Think I might have been switched to the 17a profile on a resynch last night at the exchange. I'm not going to benefit from any future general speed increase due to distance from the cab (over 600m), but although current and attainable download throughputs have both increased by 20%, the interesting thing is the attainable and current upload speed has reduced by 40% as reported by the Fritz!Box. SNR up from 6 (both) to 11 (down), and attenuation up slightly from 17 to 20.
I noticed my modem lost sync in the middle of the night (TBBQM) but I've only just got home to check for myself -

Obviously I'm still synced at 40/10 but the attainable rate has shot up! I can't wait until the trial starts in January :)
I'm not sure if is a coincidence or not but those millions of errors I used to get have all but disappeared completely. Bonus!

Good news, Griff.
Rik any chance you can merge this thread with - http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,27527.0/topicseen.html
I didn't realise there was already a 17a thread ongoing. My bad.
Naughty Griff. ;)
Sorry :red:
All done. :)
Not that I can explain most of this here is my 17a graph/stats -

20Mbps

Griff,
Did you produce your 17a graphs using asbokid's 'graph.sh' or something else? I was switched to 17a early this morning and my graphs are not correct having been produced by 'graph.sh' version 2.0.
Hi Joe,
My graphs were compiled by Paul (Pauline on TBB/Bald_Eagle1 on Kitz) who has been working alongside burakkucat and Asbokid on the graphing script.
If you want me to pass on your putty log I'm happy to do so otherwise I'm sure Paul will be more than happy to do it directly here - http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=10183
Thanks griff - I thought you must've got hold of a revised version of the script but checking asbokid's site didn't show a later version than the one I have.
I'll have a stab at modifying the script myself first, and failing that I'll liaise with Pauline/asbokid.
So, for comparison purposes, my first 17a log:-

Fingers crossed it looks like we're both well placed when it comes to the 80/20 trial in January :thumb:
I'm guessing there's no way of obtaining any sort of stats with the normal modem firmware? I don't really want to mess around in case something happens as I only have one to test with, although I'd love to find out my maximum attainable rate!

I would be interested to, but only have the 1 modem.

Nope. It requires the firmware updating.
However I have more than one OR VDSL2 modem in my possession. I'm wondering whether it would feasible to work out some sort of rota where trusted Idnetters can post this on to each other to obtain line stats!?!
I just noticed a couple on eBaY, I might buy one extra actually as they're not really expensive and it's good to have a backup.
Had one of my super hot modems (Have two FTTC connections here, I know, greedy) replaced the other day and it gave me the opportunity to get a photo of the Openreach engineer's testing gizmo - looks like I've switched to 17a too.... too scared to mess about with modem firmware to find out how the other line looks!

Hoping to get onto this 80Mbps trial, looks like I'd be right on the fringes of max speed!
BTW - is it pure coincidence that both my original modems started dying - slowed/flakey connections after a year - in the last 2 weeks... possibly with the switch to 17a - what with it being higher powered and whatnot? Both the modems were the original 'scorchers' without any revision numbers... I now have a 2B and a 3B.
Can't answer your question, but :welc: :karma:
Thanks Simon - did you get my email?
Only took me a year to sign up for the forum :)
No, but I'm not Simon from IDNet. Did you mean him?
What kept you? ;D
LOL yes apologies. I just saw Administrator and presumed.
That's just of the forum. The other Simon is Simon_idnet, with purple stars. :)
I believe Simon_Idnet has already submitted the names of those taking part in the 80/20 trial to OR. I could be wrong however.
I shall make sure I double check before assuming next time :)
Thanks Griff - yes I saw he'd sent the names... guessing it can't be amended - wish I'd checked sooner.

Indeed, welcome aboard, Pat. :welc: :karma:
