Title: Free Version of Acronis for Westen Digital users
Post by: stevenrw on Oct 12, 2011, 14:57:27
Hello everybody. I'm just in the throes of updating my ailing XP Home to Windows 7. I've also installed a couple of new Western Digital drives as storage. System drive is Hitachi and is working fine.
Now, it appears that you can download a free version of Acronis True Image from the WD website, but it is called the WD version.
So, the question is "Will it work" for me. I would just want it as a backup, not as a cloning tool. Seems to me as I've just bought two WD drives morally I should be ok, but the disc I'd be backing is not WD and I've no idea what's inside the Buffalo drive Station extenal disc I'd be writing to.
Anybody had any experience of this, and/or failing that any recommendations for a freebie that would do the same. I'm certainly not gonna throw any more money at Acronis.

But yes it will work fine as long as you have at least one WD drive in your system.
