Oo it can switch between antennas and make toast better calls supposed 4G speeds over 3G with some magical elf too. 8Mp camera and better battery. 1080P video, Face detection as well. Time to first photo: 1.1 seconds. Half a second for next shot. GSM and CDMA in one unit.

It's certainly an upgrade from the 3GS in terms of spec.

Its not a massive upgrade from the 4, same sized screen is sad though.

But how do you do that without making a larger phone? Does it not then becomes a niche product once is goes past a certain size

I know I want a larger screen. I'm only holding off buying the S2 because I read somewhere last week that a new phone was released last Friday. As it's 4G I doubt we'll see it here any time soon though. I really want to get away from my iphone though, it's really annoying me. I was hoping that this would be some sort of huge jump and be an iphone 5 with large screen, better keyboard, not linked to itunes, flexibility to install your own ring tones by literally adding them to a folder, allowing you to select them. Having the option NOT to use itunes is the way forward, or use their store, but they'll never do that, so I suspect I'll be off when a more powerful replacement to the S2 appears.

Well that seems to indicate it's a while off yet. Ho hum. 16mp in a mobile phone is very dodgy ground. They better be using some ground breaking sensor, or that amount of info on a little sensor would be noise-tastic.

The Sensation is actually not much bigger than the iPhone 4 Steve, when held together is really surprising how close they are.

You dont need to use iTunes Niall it has OTA updates and you can scan your entire music account and have it on a server, but still I take your point.

I'm probably one of the few people on the planet that thinks what they have done makes sense. I have an iPhone 4 which I've used for over a year. I've also recently tried many other types of phone but I still prefer the iPhone 4. I prefer the design and I like the way it functions and the fact that the only time I've ever had to read the manual was to work out how to take a screenshot.

If I can afford to I'll update to the iPhone 4S because it is more of the same. Improving on something that was excellent to start with makes sense to me.

With most smartphone screens at 4" or more, really after you have used one the iPhone looks awfully small and outdated.

Apparently some investment companies who hold large stakes in Apple thought Jobs might make an appearance but apparently he didn't so the question is, is that the reason the share price is now dropping or are they just underwhelmed about the new product?

Having used the HTC HD2, coming down to the 3GS was a bit of a struggle, and I still wish you could adjust the font size in Safari, but I've got used to it now.  I'd like to have a larger screen again, but I just don't like Android, and that really limits choice at the moment.

Android with the sense skin is fine though, better than Symbian. To get Siri you need a 4S Its not part of iOS5 as I assumed. so I will get one I think. Large screens are beter though, the Sensation really isnt much biger than the iPhone 4 get rid of that dumb home button and you gain loads of space, touch sensitive small home button and its done almost.

I wasn't sure about the bottom row of touch buttons on the Sensation.  I prefer hard keys there, as they are not so easy to activate accidentally.  My old BlackBerry Storm had the bottom row as touch, and it was really annoying.

Android need to unify and guarantee updates to handsets for greater than 18mths, your iPhone gets a few years...Also with all the skins over android that makes it worse, then there's the carriers...iPhones are not allowed to be tampered with by carriers, so not bloated software. Android over comes this and Google will know how many times you use the loo, just like Zuckerberg wants you to broadcast  On a side note, FF spellchecker on my machine underlines zuckerberg and offers c*cksucker as an alternative

TheMonkey, I think Transformers 2 outsold Transformers 1 at the cinema. Popularity =/= quality. ;)

The iPhone 4S is a really good phone. But most the comments here are from those with a iPhone 4 or those who don't need an iPhone at all. :D

I'm still of the opinion that Apple did the right thing, took a fairly solid product and enhanced it. I'm quite happy with my iPhone 4 so I'd obviously like a 4S. I can't justify it at the moment but I may well get one later.

So after a 2hr queue at o2 this morning i'm a proud owner of a White iPhone 4S 16gig.

Its a very nice phone and is a massive upgrade on the 3GS as you'd expect. I can't speak for the iPhone 4 users though.

Siri is very good. Better than i thought it would be and its still in "Beta" so isn't fully functional.

The camera is also amazing. I can't lug my DSLR around everywhere I go so to have such a great camera on my phone is a real treat.

10/10 for me!

Siri it would appear is not entirely helpful.

"When people outside of the US do attempt to use the functions, Siri replies: "I can only look for businesses, maps and traffic in the United States, and when you're using US English. Sorry about that."

Siri is in beta thats why. No issues here, it sends and compose txts and emails, sets alarms etc go though your music set reminders, great in a car when its hard to touch type. So I would not say its a gimmick, its better than the Android version at this stage.  I also am sure they will get Yell to partner over here as well.

Its a better phone, better colour casts on my screen compared with my old iPhone, no bluish pink tinge, camera is much better in low light as well and it ploughs though apps much quicker, its a solid update and above all it holds its signal and on mine call quality is much better.

I hate that, the courier said thats all they seem to have onboard today.Have to say I am very impressed. Decided to not use iCloud as of this moment, it works but I have privacy and data concerns and it has a few bugs tbh. having duplicate calendar settings is a nightmare. You should be very pleased with it, Steve.  :thumb: You can also use Siri to type when using apps and the on internet as well, so it should work on here to.

It says merge calendars which I always thought meant make into one, Steve.  :eyebrow:

I'm going to wait a month or so before I think about getting the iPhone4s, my iPhone4 is ok at the mo, better camera and siri doesn't really bother me.
better phone reception is a biggy. Also it's as fast as an iPad which is no slouch.

I ordered a micro sim for the 4S, and switched over from my old sim last night.   Oddly, the phone signal on the 3GS seems to have dropped a bar or two as a result.  How does that work, then?   :-\

Since installing the new OS I've noticed that my 3GS receives a stronger wifi signal, but a weaker 3G one. 1 bar instead of 3 in my house, but oddly the signal seems stronger than it was in 3-4 bar areas. In work I'd get 3-4 bars but now get a full signal. No idea why!

I do wish the GSM Association would get its members to agree a set algorithm to calculate signal strength so that it was standard across all devices as this state of affairs is truly ridiculous.

I hope the new Galaxy is released soon. I can upgrade next month, and despite Vodafone being annoying, all the other options seem to be getting more complaints recently so it might be easier to just stick with my current set of morons

I have to say that I'm surprised at the lack of people mentioning that the new iphone OS has blatantly ripped off android with a lot of features. I like them, but that's actually one of the reasons I was moving. Now they seem to be ripping off android, the 4GS might actually be worth a look (if the S3 is some sort of backwards step). I want new shiny!

Oh and while I'm thinking about it. The vodafone package I'm on apparently has access to the BT openzone wifi now, which is odd as I've always seen these networks around and can't connect to them, while my mate on his 4G can. I don't know if my contract has just been updated to actually allow it, but I don't remember it being there before, and I definitely remember complaining to my mate that I was paying the same as him and he had it and I never!

I'm actually thinking of moving to Tesco with the Galaxy S2, but preferably the S3 if it's out soon. Still, I have until February to make my mind up. I want to reduce outgoings as I'm paying £46 a month at the mo, and the S2 is almost half that for a similar package!

And Android copied iOS features, its how it works in that great corportate world we are all part of thats falling apart around us. After all who copied the folders feature from iOS? Without this stuff going on our devices would not grow. Good luck with the wifi issues on the S2, and even death grip on HTC Sensation...ahh the irony. Phones do everything apart from make calls and have battery's that last more than a day, well if you have a 4.3"-4.6" screen device maybe thats not so surprising, where does phone end and tablet begin  :dunno:

If you are planning to port your number be careful.

They sent me a SIM out with a different number to the temporary number shown on the account and they told me the SIM had been deactivated when they traced its serial number.

Initial impressions compared to 3GS , love the screen resolution,it's so very much quicker and the camera's now usable. Managed a fairly straight forward setup and it's not been anywhere near iTunes, all my required Apps downloaded from the cloud.

I don't like this cloud business.  My 3GS will sync with iTunes wirelessly now, but it still needs connecting to mains power.  :stars:  Will the 4S sync wirelessly without a power connection?

Haven't got that far yet but I suspect it will be the same as the 3GS, my guess is to avoid data corruption should the battery die during sync.

Yes it does, what it means is when you have the phone on charge overnight and the screen goes blank it syncs, but you can do it manually at at any time on just battery takes a few minutes after the first bigger one. I'm not using iCloud, I dont like data floating about on a server somewhere tbh. Also I dont really need to use it at this time.

I think the iPhone 4S with IOS5 is a very rounded performer and the build quality to me feels exceptional. IOS5 is very refined,it's slick it works (Siri excluded) with the added advantage that iTunes sync  is no longer essential . iCloud functions as I need it to,which ever device I use the same data is available. I'm not to worried about confidentiality or potential data loss with iCloud as I'm sure there's more chance of me losing the phone. So it's a thumbs up from me.
