On my new Win 7 PC I am being prompted to create system recovery media onto DVD or USB Flash drive so that in the event of a hard disk failure all could be restored from it. However if I needed a new hard disk would the computer boot up from this flash drive and if the recovery software was on the flash drive could it restore itself? What would be the correct or recommended method?
If the BIOS supports booting from a USB device, you should be OK, but I'd also make a DVD to be on the safe side.
