Title: router prob
Post by: alcav on May 27, 2007, 23:21:17
Hi all,

does the Netgear router occasionally lock up?It appears mine did this evening.I had to unplug it momentarily and then plug it in again ::),and then all was well again :).Any ideas why this happens? or is it another of those weird and wonderful unexplainable electronic faults that happen(Gremlins) ;)

regards.....Alan

The NetGear I use locks up every 100ish days; a simple restart fixes it. It could perhaps be the logs filling up the memory or some other inexplicable thing.

Hi Alan

As Adam says, Netgears do tend to lock up once in a while, a bit like Sky boxes. :) One thing I have noticed which seems to provoke it is the use of Routerstats. The early version didn't, but the later versions, with the ability to telnet into the router do. I think.  :-\

Gm Rik,

when you say use of Routerstats.Do you mean displaying the graphs etc.cos that's what I was doing when it locked up! ;)

That's the one. :) I've had regular lockups when using that.

That's the best way, Alan, and avoid using the telnet functions as much as possible!  ;)

I also have this problem with Routerstats on my linksys router. It would seem that when left unattended for a longish period of time it starts to create a fuss (processor usage 100%), and then half the time you end task, it locks up the router.

It would be a great program if it had fewer bugs!

The earlier version, which wasn't as fancy, ie it logged but only had an on-screen graph and no telnet functions, seemed a more stable product.
