It's an .exe Max (dons gimps suit) ...is it the latest Zonealarm install ?
Yep it updates your current version ;)
Ive stopped using ZA recently, the pro verson tends to make startup take years, and also slows shutdown to a crawl - this is on a new XP install aswell..:(
Have you tried installing the free version, which I've been using for years? It's never slowed down anything. :D
Might be worth checking what else is being started...or the settings for ZA Pro.

Same here i have never noticed any slowdown.
I think the free verson is fine, ie no visible/noticable slow down, however ive always used pro, and since the latest update its been un-usable :(
Hmmm I have always used Zonealarm.....and its always been pro version.....its updated to the latest .722 and to be honest, I have not noticed any difference in the way my pc boots up or shuts down (its on the slow side anyway because of all the stuff that loads up).
I would rather have a "slow protected" pc than a "fast open" pc.... ;)

You could have a fast & secure pc , give this a try.How to stop all the junk loading when you boot the PC.
CLICK HERE ---- http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml)
Download "startup control panel"
When you install it go to Control panel and you'll see a icon "startup" click it and go through the tabs and untick anything that you do not think you need at boot.
Below are things NOT to uncheck.
Anything to do with your Anti Virus / POWER PROFILE / POINTER / SCAN REG / SYSTEM TRAY.
You'll notice how much faster the pc boots ._________________
or do all of that with the msconfig command in run :P

You can do that but believe me its quicker to use my method especially if you get something wrong :P
I used Mike Lin's Start Up Control Panel (and his start-up monitor (http://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml)) for years. Then I found this! (http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html)
I stopped using a software firewall when I purchased a router. See for yourselves, hook an ADSL modem up and run ZoneAlarm and look at the log file ... frightening (but usually OK internet "noise"). Now hook a decent router up with built in firewall and look at the ZoneAlarm logfile ... probably zero entries ;)
I always used ZoneAlarm but found their recent versions bloated, with anti-spyware etc included which I didn`t want, and if you happen to deny any windows applications internet access or startup access (probably why ppl find that their systems are taking a long time to boot) then it creates more problems than it solves.
My advice, have 10 beers, you won`t give a sh*t!" :) j/k

Download yourself a keystroke logger, and see how effective a router firewall is at stopping illicit outgoing traffic....
Oh come on now Bill, you been watching 1984 again? :D

I've had one... as it happens the virus scan picked it up before it "phoned home", but that was luck of the draw.

I have a router with firewall and also ZA and no slowdown.
I prefer the belt and braces approach. ;D
