Title: Deus ex
Post by: Niall on Sep 02, 2011, 19:11:25
An absolutely AWESOME game. Some graphical glitches and one of the NPCs are bugged so you get stuck in a conversation that you can't end. Also there's a use of VERY low res textures throughout the game that I hope they'll patch at some point.

This game is EASILY THE best game that's been released in a long while. I honestly can't remember the last time I didn't want to leave my computer, but over the last few days I've spent just under 36 hours playing this game, and I've just finished it.

My god, it's so immersive. WELL worth the money, and I bought the augmented edition too!

Not sure I like the animation, lipsync is awful, must admit I loved Deadspace 2 because the textures were great really smooth game with very few bugs. I'm waiting on Mass Effect 3 which was meant to be this year, now its 2012 along with the new Bioshock Infinite which looks excellent, no more rapture not even the same game really they have really pulled something very bright and new out of the bag there.

That review is basically the same as for the first game. I guess your talking about the 3rd (prequel)?

I've been playing this one since last week off and on, can't spend massive amounts of time on it due to being busy around the house, but so far, am enjoying it a lot.

I'm intending to buy this when the price drops a little, I've just finished EYE so I have a little time free now. DX1 was one of the best games ever from a story, gameplay, and atmosphere perspective (and that also had pretty average graphics, even back then). From what I hear, DXHR doesn't quite match the original, but it'll still probably be one of the best games this year.

Its a miss for me, AI is awful, when enemies are right in front of you missing because you are crouching...also shooting is a pain, its really hit and miss and the faces are so badly done, its  a big game and good to play but its let down my looking two years out of date but you do get into it but its repetitive and boss levels are just run and shoot affairs. Next month Uncharted 3 Drakes Deception comes out, by the look of its game play it blows the socks off Uncharted 2 and that was great, thats will be a game to watch out for and shows how advanced the AI and graphics can be compared with this game.

They worked extremely cleverly for the levels in Uncharted 2 I think it was. They used clever tricks to double the amount of stuff on screen. Like instead of using 2 models for a ruined Aztec house and a wall, they used one model for both. Unless you look really close at them, you would have never guessed they were similar. So it shows clever thinking and they can get twice the game in than the rest of the competition. :)

A patch just downloaded that fixes a lot of things. No mention of the NPC bugged in the first section though, although I only skimmed the notes :)

Yeah that sounds like the original Deus Ex. It was still a great game due to the gameplay and story, so I will probably still check it out. The boss 'fights' from what I hear *are* entirely stupid though. DX was entirely intended as a PC game, but it sounds like DXHR is a little schizophrenic in places. I had never heard of Uncharted.

Yes, there is a new patch that fixes things, but adds... in-game advertising? Whose great idea was that?

Probably ubisoft. They have been making almost suicidal company decisions recently. A bit like those adverts in DXHR for StarWars the complete pack, what was George thingking when he decided Greedo shot first!?

In game adverts can be totally acceptable in the correct sort of game/area. Deus ex is mainly based in giant cities, so there are billboards and cans, litter, etc everywhere. All that sort of thing is a gold mine for adverts, and I think it could add to a game if it has a real feel to it. However if it's things like pop ups or loading screens, then that takes something away.

All that being said I can't say I've noticed any adverts, but that was pre patch.

It was added after the patch. Which is just downright underhanded. If it was with the original game, then your buying what is there. Adding it later, is like taking out the cheese from the sandwich in your mouth (or putting in something you dislike after you've bitten in ;) ).

It's doubly so when it's added to loading screens. Now the company has a monetary incentive to lengthen game loading, and reduce the time being played.   ::)

The loading screen point you've made there is exactly the worry I have with them. I thought I'd mentioned it but a hangover ate my brain :D

Just imagine a new firmware update to your TV adding adverts to the movies you've paid for! :O
