Title: Struggling with speed....

I've tried rebooting my router, unplugging it etc but not having much luck.

I have these figures below for a few weeks now and i'm not sure what do do :(

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1054 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps


I'd just like to say i've been with IDNet for a while and its never been like this?

Router Netgear DG something something something (the common one that everyone has)
Dumb question but would i have had to do anything after moving from a PC? I now have an iMac (got it a few months before christmas)

Looks like either local BT Exchange Congestion or poor WiFi throughput. Suggest wired ethernet connection if not already and perform several BT speedtests covering the day and forward to support.

Thanks Steve. This is currently through ethernet and has been going on for a while. may have to make some more tests at the weekend.

Whatever you do, don't keep re-booting the router.

Ok thanks, Rik.  :)

I'll keep an eye on it but should hopefully be moving soon hopefully my new place will be happier!

ahh moving house, lovely opportunity to improve, it went the other way for me as i went from a nice consistent top speed adsl service to a totally erratic connection (only recently fixed after 4+ years of hell and getting nowhere)

Hope you get a good crystal clear line at the new place, and that you opt to use twisted pair cabling too :)

Quick update..

I've put it down to congestion. Seems all the old folk in my village have figured out the internet.  :laugh:

I've gone back to ADSLmax and now my connection is rock solid and usable.  :fingers:

Roll on the 1st Dec for FTTC  ;D

That sounds more like a noise issue, though it's possible that the noise is down to crosstalk, of course.
