Title: Google ditches Android App Inventor
Post by: Simon on Aug 12, 2011, 12:55:41
Google will no longer support its Android app-making tool.

Launched only a year ago, Android App Inventor is a wysiwyg tool to create apps without any coding skills.

App Inventor is being shut down as part of wider efforts by Google to streamline its operations, including shutting down its innovations department, Google Labs.

Unlike previous projects that have been killed off, such as Google Health and Google PowerMeter, Android App Inventor will be handed to the open-source community.

"Additionally, because of App Inventor's success in the education space, we are exploring opportunities to support the educational use of App Inventor on an open source platform," said Google.

The tool will be available via Google until the end of the year, but its URL will change in the next 90 days, the company said.

Paranoia! Google probably don't like the fact they can't control what people do with it.
