Title: Home Phone problem
Post by: joe on Aug 11, 2011, 06:23:34
Yesterday I returned from a few days away to discover my phone was dead - no dial tone. Broadband (FTTC) was and is perfectly OK. Both services are supplied by iDnet.

I discussed the fault with James at support at apprx 15:10. He said it showed as a fault at the exchange and he would advise BT Openreach to effect repair.

As yet, 15 hours later, nothing has happened and the phone remains dead. In the past when the phone was supplied by BT one rang 151 and a repair was effected almost immediately. Is this a downside to having the phone supplied by iDnet.

Is there a prescribed time period for repairs to ones phone line being repaired? Can one seek recompense for this loss of service?

You'd have to ask IDNet about compensation. In the past they've had a BT engineer out to me in hours, and also not been able to get one for two days. The underlying problem is BT, of course.

Thanks Rik.  James replied this a.m. saying it could take up to 72 hrs but it was back up again at about 1.00pm so now all OK.

It appeared to be caused by a cold call that left a message ( I have won a Caribbean holiday!) on 1571 which seemed to repeat forever.

Don't you just hate those calls.

That's exactly what happened with my mums phone. IDnet look into it, contact BT, BT say 3-4 days and it's almost always fixed in 1-2 days.
