Title: IE or IQ?
Post by: Technical Ben on Jul 31, 2011, 06:01:07
Oh dear. Let me just leave this here, and let you discuss it among yourselves. I guess it will cause no end of trouble.

However on a MBP, FF and Opera always activate the discrete graphic card (which obviously consumes more battery power) you can get round it by using "gfxCardStatus" which can be set to prevent dynamic switching and is Lion compatible. Mac users can not use IE but we probably wouldn't anyway given the choice. >:D

Some people are quite cross about it (http://www.aptiquant.com/news/aptiquant-threatened-with-a-lawsuit-by-loyal-internet-explorer-users/)...

I have a measured IQ of 132 and I use IE9, the exception proves the rule

As Mark Twain said there are lies, damn lies and statistics.

I think that whoever produced the report was merely trying to interprete a particular correlation to promote his own predjudices.

It's more likely that many of those who use IE are happy with the default browser that came with their PC rather than chose IE after trying several other browsers.

I suspect the majority of PC users are not really that interested in the technicalities of their machines and simply want to use them to access the net and do the occasional Word document and if it works see no reason to change it. As long as their web pages display as they expect it does not matter to them if the web developer has to ensure that it is compatible with IE. A non technically minded group may also include those with a lower IQ but that doesn't mean that everyone in the group has.

Microsoft staff probably have a very high IQ and presumbaly use IE.

I think you make a good point, John. In the early days of the PC, people went to the shops wanting a machine that could run Visicalc, and that was the only thing that mattered. Nowadays, we get bogged down in platform wars, program wars etc while we should really be saying "Does this setup do what I want in a way that I like?"

Oh, no submission. The IQ test is done by checking who can actually manage to get onto the website in the first place. ;)
Those who don't use the internet at all score an IQ of 1 million. They don't need the internet because they already know everything!

PS john, it could also be the range maybe? IE is popular, so it covers the highest number of users, thus is more likely to reach the norm. The other browsers have less users, so have more chance to be swayed by outliners (as they have more effect on the average). The IQ test is a measure of the norm. So the results may just show "the average person uses the average browser". Nothing special. However, if there was no link at all I guess we would see some browsers scoring less than IE. Though if IE is no longer the most used, it may show why it's giving different results to what is expected.

I think I loose some of my IQ every time I use IE anyway.
