Well I finally decided to take the plunge and treat myself to a new widescreen monitor which I duly ordered from Misco about a week ago and it arrived last Friday.
The monitor is a 22" Samsung Syncmaster 226BW and I must say I am very pleased with it and it is a vast improvement on my old 17" Iiyama monitor.
Really great to have so much screen space and be able to have 2 windows open side by side without having to do much if any scrolling around to find anything.
Sounds good, I have never seen the advantage of a widescreen monitor, but if you can open 2 windows side by side, that would be an benefit at times. :)
Going from a 17" to a 20.1 dell widescreen owns so badly...i love it. Its the highest quality of panel too! Also HDCP compliant >:D I recommend you all go widescreen now!!
I've had widescreen on this laptop and my last one. Highly recommend it!
Well, so far I have preferred 4:3 screens, so that I could get the 1200 pixel vertical resolution I like. However, coming with the new machine is a w/s Viewsonic which is 1920 x 1200, so I'll add my opinion once I've worked with it a bit. Of course, what I really want is a 28" w/s monitor!! Wimbledon neck anyone? :laugh:
I have been using a 19" dell ultrasharp as my main monitor and have been very pleased with it, but at Easter dell had a promo on 2407wfp 24" widescreen monitor for just a tad over £400. I have had my eye on one of these for a long time and took the bait.
What a great screen! I now have both panels set up side by side and the 24" will show 2 web pages plus I can have a 3rd on the 19" next to it.
Not a great gamer but my old fav Far Cry has had a new lease of life on the new screen ;-)

How does your graphics card cope with running at the higher native resolution on a widescreen? I ask as I am considering the Samsung also. I currently use a 19" Sony TFT running at 1280 X 1024 running with a nVidia 7800GT.
My main interest would be for gaming though, hence the need to run at native res but with lighting/shadow effects etc switched on

Therefore, I would suggest that your card should be more than happy running at the 1680 x 1050 res of the monitor.

My graphics card runs fine at the native resolution of 1680 x 1050 I use an ATI Radeon 9600 with 128mb memory so not a very high spec compared to cards now available.
Of course the downside to using Widescreen is that you need to up size for size to get the same size, if that makes sense.
I think I will stick with my Dell 19" Ultrasharp 4.3, it is a lovely monitor, swivel stand, rise and fall stand and 4 USB Connectors. ;)
