My Macbook died on thursday. It had a cracked screen, so I took it to be repaired. They serviced it to tell me the logic board (?) was failing as was the HD :( Would cost a grand to repair + the screen.
am using a tiny windows notebook, but it hurts my eyes, can't afford a new Mac, but don't wannae windows.. sad days :(
Yes, sad days indeed.

The "Logic board" is Apples name for a motherboard. They seem to like to find a new name for things that have perfectly adequate names for some reason.
Sorry to hear that, Tina. :(
I agree it's misleading although I can understand why to a certain extent as the word motherboard is misleading in a laptop as it consists of motherboard and daughter boards incorporated into one piece. I have also heard the word mainboard used in place of motherboard.
HP call them Systemboards, as all the systems are present on the board
Well there's some 'logic' to that. >:D
Is not every part of it a logic board? Unless they have analogue boards too?
Couldn't they just call it 'the works'? ;D
MS word sue them. ;)

The screen would be around £100 - 200 (for a compatible panel), a 250Gb Hdu £40 - 50, and the board :dunno: What model Macbook is it?
If the damage to the screen was due to accidental damage you might be covered on your household insurance, it could be worth checking.
How old is the system?

Bet a windows machine, at least you can work on it yourself for the most part... OS X is great its the rest that ruins it.
You've hit my Apple gripe right on the head Gary.
They dress the hardware up like its totally different to a PC and charge double the price when new and extortionate prices to service it.
