Title: problems with netgear router and games
Post by: exxos on Jun 20, 2011, 08:37:36
I have a netgear DG834G router and trying to get age of mythology (AOM) to work though it. I know ive tried to do this in the past and gave up. At the time I just used to unplug my router and plug in a ADSL modem.

However, I know my friend had a BT router and never had any issues with games or even had to bother setting anything up. I too had a BT router but had nothing but trouble with it so brought a netgear router back then which worked fine, but again couldn't get games to work though it.

Another game we play works fine, I setup the services and firewall, and could get it to work fine. Ive setup the port numbers, and even setup any(all) and even setup a rule to allow ports 1-65530. Nothing I try seems to work with it.

Im sure I read somewhere that port numbers have to be forwared to the same port numbers for it to work, but I cant find any options for that really.  All I can find on google is a setup guide to setup the ports, which I did, but still can't get it to work.

I think the problem is the game is seeing my LAN IP address and is looking for other connections on my own LAN rather than looking at my ISP IP address.

Has anyone any clues how to solve this ? The game will work though a router, just can't seem to figure out how. Thanks.

Take a look at Portforward (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm) it should explain what ports need to be opened, just select your router then the game.

Yeah thats the site i found and followed the steps, I tried a free port checker and it says ports 446-65535 are closed  :dunno:

yeah thats the page i did, though i did solve it, theres a silly commandline thing for the game to override the lan ip to the internet ip, which solved it :)
