Title: password protecting web gallery
Post by: krysia on Jun 17, 2011, 16:52:35
Once you upload an item to the web gallery, how do you password-protect it? I thought there'd be a clear button, but am confused by all the boxes.

Is there a tutorial or other general instructions on how to use the gallery?

From my customer login, I can see this;

Tips

Password protect all your photos:
To password protect all your photos click on the 'Your Album' link, then click 'Edit Album', scroll down that page to the 'Password Protection' section and enter a password, then click save. Anybody now trying to view your photos will be asked for a password.

Hide your album:
If you do not want your album showing on the homepage do the following:
1. Click on 'Your Album' at top of page 2. Choose 'Edit Album' from left hand menu 3. Scroll down to "Hide Album" section 4. Tick the hidden checkbox 5. Save
Your album should now be hidden and you will need to give people your gallery address of http://gallery.idnet.com/main.php/v/Glenn/ for them to be able to view your photos.

Easy uploading from Windows XP
Goto "Add Items", select "Windows XP" and then follow the instructions. This will allow you to upload photos directly from the Windows file manager.

Changing What Details Are Displayed
Choose 'Edit Album', then choose the 'Theme' tab. Within this tab you can change what details are show on the album page and also what details are shown on individual photo pages. i.e. to remove the exif details from photo pages go down to 'Blocks to show on photo pages', select 'Exif/IPTC photo info', choose remove and then use the 'Save theme settings' button at the bottom of the page.

It maybe of some help.

One strange thing - that's all working, but now when I go to log in to my gallery, I'm told it's a 'Security Violation.
The action you attempted is not permitted', and I'm offered the option to go 'Back to the Gallery'.  I then click on 'Back to the gallery', at which point, the upper right hand corner shows 'Your Account', 'Your Album', 'Logout', so I am logged in after all.  Then I click on my album, am prompted for the password, and the album comes up. Is that how it should be happening?

It sounds like it's hidden and that you need to login as admin before you can see it.

Thanks, Rik - yes, I have hidden the album and am glad to know the message I'm getting doesn't sound strange and that I haven't messed anything up.  I'm not sure how to log in as administrator - this 'security violation' happens even when I access the photo gallery after logging into my IDNet account. It doesn't really matter, as it logs me into the gallery even though it says it won't.

Admin login is at:

http://gallery.idnet.com/main.php?g2_view=core.UserAdmin&g2_subView=core.UserLogin&g2_GALLERYSID=4d0f32a5dcb6d089f50cc64c4999c229

at least it is for me. :)

That's where I'm logging in from and getting the security violation message - strange.

Me too. Clear all cookies and flush your cache, then go through the process you describe, see if it asks for a user name and password. If it does, enter them and get Firefox to remember them. I'd also suggest downloading CookieCuller for FF, it's a handy way to preserve those cookies you want to keep while dumping the rest.
