There seems to be an incompatibility between the 7800N (and maybe others) and the Apple Airport Extreme and Express units.
It manifests itself with the Airport device disconnecting the wireless every few minutes and filling the log up with messages like
Jun 15 03:57:11 Severity:5 Disconnected from network.
Jun 15 03:57:14 Severity:5 Joined BSS 00:04:ed:97:fb:2d
Jun 15 03:57:15 Severity:5 Installed unicast CCMP key for authenticator 00:04:ed:97:fb:2d
I thought my AEX was dying, but another tbb member had the same problem- Billion support suggested changing some settings:
1. Open command prompt.
2. Type 'telnet 192.168.1.254'
3. Enter your username and password set to the 7800N
4. Type 'iwpriv ra0 set BeaconPeriod=75'
5. Type 'iwpriv ra0 set RTS threshold=2307'
6. Type 'iwpriv ra0 set FragThreshold=2304'
7. Type 'save'
8. Type 'Logout'
Without the quotes, obviously.
To return settings to default, use:
BeaconPeriod 100
RTSthreshold 2347
Fragthreshold 2346
I haven't tried it yet, I just switched of the AEX's wireless and used Ethernet via a homeplug, but apparently it works.
Thanks Bill my AEBS is wired to the 7800N and I allow it's wifi to be extended for a wifi connected Time Capsule. I like Apple's implementation of WDS as it seems to work at full N speed with minimal latency

I always prefer wired Ethernet to this arty-farty wireless rubbish :whistle:
The arty farty wireless solved a rather difficult wiring issue especially as a good N connection is acceptable for most situations that I encounter.
It certainly has its uses and I wouldn't really be without it, but it seems to more than its fair share of inscrutable ways of not quite working >:(
I'm with Bill about wireless.
I support an audio conferencing system (among others) for a living and unless the signal is absolutely perfect and the machine being used is in the same room as the router it won't touch it.
I must admit that for range and performance at the limit the 7800N wireless easily out performs my AEBS
Having 3 aerials instead of none probably helps :P

It really is a top top class router and worth every penny for all its features. Only problem is that it looks ugly!

One has to wonder which features were worth every penny, but I don't think I want to go there :eek4:

I need a decent 3X3 antenna router, my iMac has three aerials inside they updated the wireless card with the new thunderbolt iMacs but the E4200 is one of the few I have seen that's dual band, but way to pricey since it has no IPV6 support, and looks like it may never.
I've recently purchased a Billion 8800NL router from IDNet and tried to set it up late this afternoon. The IP address of the router in order to gain access to the CP is 192.168.1.254 but I still can't get into the panel. Internet is working over ethernet but not WiFi. I contacted IDNet and someone said they would check the line but I was cut off and now they are closed. Any ideas?
Try http://192.168.1.254:8888/
Thanks very much Zap. In the end I had to phone support and spoke to Steve who sorted it out for me. There was a WiFi key on the box which is the new password. Excellent support!
