Title: WYSIWYG Web Design Software
Post by: sparky on Jun 09, 2011, 11:52:59
All, I'm on unfamiliar ground here, so keep it simple

I was using an old version of Expression Web that I had, to "play around" with my personal idnet web space and try my hand at designing a personal web site, but having upgraded to Windows 7 I haven't reinstalled it as there seems to be too many problems with it.  Do Idnet still recommend anything for creating web pages?  I have search around the support areas of the web site and can't find anything.

I'm not into HTML, although given the time I would like to be, so initially I am looking for a WYSIWYG piece of software. There is WYSIWYG web builder 7 at about £30 and I have also found Komposer which is free.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Bearing in mind I'm running Windows 7 ?

Thanks.

NVU hasn't been updated for years has it?  Isn't that what is now Kompozer?

All seems a bit old to me.

I don't know, tbh, but that was the last recommendation from IDNet.

Hi Rik,

Yeah. It seems odd though that idnet still recommend something whose last official release was in 2005  :-\

Looks like KompoZer is its update, but even that looks a bit bare. Doesn't look like it offers templates and such.

Maybe I'll give the free trial of this a go and see how it goes..... http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/index.html (http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/index.html)

TBH, I think IDNet just found a free app to do the job. They don't support the free webspace as such.

Take a look at CoffeeCup HTML Editor. The free version does not include a WYSIWYG editor, but if you purchase the full version ($49), it's included.

There are themes available too...(even in the free version),.

The full version is here:

Hey Thanks guys for all of the pointers.

I've been trying out Web Builder 7  (http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/index.html (http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/index.html)) which is very easy to use and seems to have quite a large and active user community, there are also lots of templates available both on the website and through the forums. It is also cheaper than Coffeecup and CuteSite Builder. I did look at Komposer but wasn't convinced as updates seem rare and it's based on something written in 2005 (NVU). Pagebreeze seems interesting though. I might have to investigate that one before I go and purchase WebBuilder 7.

Thanks again.
