Title: Wobbly landline
Post by: peasblossom on May 15, 2011, 15:19:40
Every so often someone mentions that they haven't been able to get through to me on my landline. I don't have trouble dialling out but recently a family member said they'd got a 'this line is out of action' type message when she tried to ring back. Anyone got any ideas?

If you are with IDNet for your landline ask support to ask BT to do some line tests as unlike broadband there are no real diagnostics you can do and if they are being greeted with a network recorded message it sounds like a line/exchange fault.

Ta. I didn't want to ring them without asking here first.

The only other thing you could try is dialling 17070 and selecting option 1, the ringback test.

Ah did not know about that but would that help diagnose a routing fault as the ringback would be just generated from the exchange?

I very much doubt it, Mitch, but it's worth trying in the hope that it might trigger a fault.

Indeed.
