I may have to move to a wireless connection in the near future as my extended phone/internet cable is starting to physically break up after fifteen years. (don't ask but cats come into it!) At present I have ethernet cabling for our upstairs.
We have two PC's (one XP and one Vista) and a recently acquired re-con. laptop (XP). Given that from what I have read and my own experience Netgear seem to be as good as anything for general 'light' use, i.e. no gaming or massive downloads. I would need a wireless adaptor for one of the PC's.
Is there any advantage in buying from Idnet when Amazon etc. are much cheaper?
Should I go for 'g' or 'n' standard given that the DG834 has been around for ever it seems and the non-wireless version I have has worked well.
I note that the DGN2200 seems to be used by a number of 'idnetters'.

Going for an N router would potentially give you higher speeds, David, and the 834 is a bit long in the tooth now. There's no advantage in buying from IDNet unless you'd be more comfortable with the router having been set up for you. If you're not gaming and don't use VoIP, you should have no problems with the increased latency that wireless entails.
Positioning is one of the major things to consider (as with wires ;) ).
I have a DSG834, rev 5 and it works a dream. I did not even realise how many features it has, as it has soo many. Even QOS settings and some nice security features.
As to wifi, it works fine across the house. It's more down to the PC location, as if Its stuck in the corner of a wall, it leaves the antenna (PCI card) without a signal. But the router performs fine.
