Title: Problem Loading Page
Post by: Conrad on Apr 30, 2011, 08:23:04
Tried to look at two websites this morning and got "Problem Loading Page - Server Not Found" on both. The sites are:
http://www.urbanchicken.org.uk/index.php/Breeds
http://www.motherearthnews.com/happy-homesteader/chicken-breeds-with-pictures-zb0z10zgri.aspx

Checked network status on Idnet and it is green.

...Just refreshed those pages and both have now loaded ok.  Maybe just a glitch.  I seem to get a lot of glitches lately.  :shake:

Both fine here, though the second one was a bit sluggish. It might be worth flushing your DNS cache, Start > Run > type ipconfig /flushdns and hit Enter. If that doesn't help, get back to us.

Both working fine for me. The second one takes maybe quarter of a second longer to load though.

Ditto, but make that a second or two.

First link is instant, second link takes a couple of seconds.

I forgot to mention, that this is the exact problem that I've been seeing for a couple of months now, maybe slightly longer. You get a server error, then refresh and it's okay. I am finding more and more pages doing it, seemingly randomly.

I am honestly starting to wonder if IDnet is approaching capacity. Similar things started to happen with Nildram before they bought a new pipe. I suppose it could be an entirely different thing, but it's getting harder and harder to ignore as more people in different areas are experiencing the same as me. Although, that in itself isn't totally condemning as it could easily be coincidental baring in mind how many people use IDnet, or it could be BT altering things in their exchanges across the board, causing the issue.

My exchange is fine, as is all my equipment, so it's definitely an issue outside of my immediate area.

I may start using that think broadband doicky if it keeps up, but I feel that the problem is packet loss, as others have stated.

Sounds like DNS, not bandwidth capacity.

Even nameservers have a finite capacity!

Though I've seen no signs that IDNet's are approaching theirs.

I've the symptom Niall is talking about ever since joining IDNet.  It only happens rarely for me, and I've got used to just refreshing, so I think nothing of it now.  Still odd, though.

I used to get it with the 2700hgv. Since changing to a netgear I've not had it once.
