Title: ASDL2+ Regrade
Post by: AzShane on Apr 18, 2011, 19:54:26
Hi new to the forums (well posting anyway, been lurking for 2 years), my ASDL2+ regrade went live today and my download speed has dropped!, been on a rock solid fast path connection of 8128kbps. Any ideas on how I can improve this or is it just a blip and will take a few days for it to speed up?, The IP profile worries me a bit? Thanks for any help  :P Also I've been trying for the last week to make heads or tails of the line att and noise margin values but I still don't understand if mine are good or bad?

BT Speed test (Master Test Socket)
Download speed achieved during the test was - 5428 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speed is 2000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :17970 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1251 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 5500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 9.27:24.94:65.8 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.

(From Router - Netgear DG834G v5)
Connection Speed   17971 kbps   1251 kbps
Line Attenuation           27.5 db           9.5 db
Noise Margin           6.00 db           6.5 db

The downstream sync rate looks good, the low throughput is due to the low IP profile, the profile should rise towards the downstream sync rate if your connection remains stable,I think you've got see how your line responds to adsl2+ it is  more sensitive to the effects noise than adslmax. If the line is stable with no resyncs and the profile remains as is check with support in a few days time.

Looks a good line to me, as Steve has said just need to wait for the profile to rise which it should do over the next few days.

IP profile increased to 13k this morning, but sync decreased to 15k when I moved the router back next to the pc (using an 3m extension cable from master socket).

Thanks for the replies :)

If you can buy a shielded cable from the socket to the router, something like this (http://www.adslnation.com/phpapps/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=116)

I was just thinking there must be something better than this 50p cable I got lol. Thanks!

It's either that or get a longer ethernet cable, the router is best kept with shortest 'broadband' cable to reduce the chances of induced noise. Ethernet cable is not susceptible.

I'll go with the cable you linked, will be easier to wire around the door (Very awkward placement of telephone socket) also ordered one of their filters as the current one I am using was a cheap quick fix.

Well, copper ethernet may be susceptible with lengths greater than 100m...  :D

Got the New Cable and Filter today, increased my sync by 2Mb so THANKS :P, am I right in thinking its a max 72 hour wait on the IP profile increasing further than the 13k it jumped after the 1st day?

Download speedachieved during the test was - 13604 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 4000-21000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :17291 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1267 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 13000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 15.57:21.2:63.24 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.

The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

I can take up to 5 days for profile adjustments, with smaller adjustments normally taking the longest.

My exchange was meant to be upgraded to ADSL2 in February but it never happened apparently. Maybe it's a good thing!

Connections been rock solid but I seem to be stuck on 15000 IP profile, even with constant syncs of 17000+, would it be worth requesting IDnet to try get BT to increase it?

Download speedachieved during the test was - 16562 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 4000-21000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :17575 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1235 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 15000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 17.81:22.26:59.93 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.

The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

Looking at the profile list here - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm if it's still correct your on the max one for your sync.

Well it's very confusing when throughput on a BT speedtest is higher than profile as that's not supposed to be possible. As I understand it BT limit the throughput at the BRAS to the IP profile and anything above that will be dropped. Indeed certain ISPs track the BRAS limit and set that as the limit for that connection through their network, so they drop the packet and not BT , it's supposed to be useful for  instance with VOIP as the small packets tend to get through in the event of a burst exceeding the BRAS rate.
