Title: Steam & CCleaner
Post by: wecpcs on Mar 31, 2011, 15:55:24
I have just come across a problem with STEAM if you also use CCLeaner. The latest update of CCleaner 3.05 has added a new ticked box for STEAM under applications and if left ticked, wipes out critical STEAM files which corrupts the STORE and NEWS sections of STEAM. I have spent endless hours eventually uninstalling STEAM and re-installing STEAM and all my games (from Steam backups) fortunately, for it only to happen all over again, until I found on the STEAM forum, the culprit CCleaner. This time I only had to remove the contents of the STEAM folder with the exceptions of steam.exe, steamapps folder and userdata folder and then STEAM just re-created all the files again.

I never liked steam cleaning.  ;D

I noticed that after I ran it the other day, it said it had removed 200mb of files from Steam, which worried me. I then noticed that Crysis 2, which was on 7gb of the 8gb download (I'd downloaded next to nothing this month, so why not? ;D) suddenly said it was on 1%! I restarted steam and it continued from the 7gb mark thank god :D

I noticed it's been removing files from it when I ran it today (10 minutes ago infact) but I don't think it's doing any damage. All games are still working, and I assumed that it was referring to the way it handles cache files for news/media through the browser. I may uncheck it until the next version comes out, just incase :D
