I have been having problems (self inflicted Im sure) with my Nokia E71 there is nothing wrong with it but I just cant seem to get emails and after the other night thought I might go for a factory reset and start from scratch but instead in true David fashion I went out and purchased a PAYG Blackberry Curve !! :dunno:
I am hoping I can put my sim card in (contract) and just use the thing well in theory and in Davids world this works
So forgetting the Nokia for a moment I will do a hard reset in a while so will concentrate on the new one ,Anyone here got one of these and are they as easy as I have been led to believe to set up and work .
Im assuming that the email account I would just enter the same details as say on a pc ?
This is fun and hope I have not blown more money ;D
Not to bothered as the Nokia will be sent to that famous auction house so that will ease my pain .... I could have just upgraded but I want to stop paying out £43 a month on my mobile as it isnt used that often so now I can downgrade the subs with T.mbile (if this makes sense)
BlackBerry has it's own push email service, so you get emails instantly, but you can set up an existing account easily enough, David. It's just a matter of tapping the details into the email setup wizard.
Thanks Simon Im just reading and setting this up and I have got to get it unlocked ,it came with sim card PAYG fine but I want to use my Tmobile sim and Im reading that I have to get in touch with Tmobile and ask for a code :dunno: (will reread) .....
I shouldnt be let out alone you know but it looks much simpler to use so far
I am wondering if for now I can use the card which came with it ,it has £10 credit on already and some apps apparently so thinking use this to set it up etc as atm it states incorrect sim card and instructing me to change it hmmmmmm
Where did you buy it, David? It sounds like it's locked to a network.
I bought it at Argos Rik and its 3 G
Which networks sim was with the phone when you bought it?
Just checking Glenn I thought it was T mobile hold on
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500002701&langId=-1&productId=1500908023
This is it !gulp
I guess you'll need to unlock the phone , costs about £10 or return it to Argos and try again.
Agros don't stock a T-Mobile version of that phone, from what I can see
I have just returned from a shop close by and he will unlock it for £10 I am assuming this is legal :dunno: I have no idea at all I assume it is or hope so
If we don't see you on here for a bit, we know what happened. ;D

While thats at the shop do you mean that there is going to be another email address ?xxxxx@blackberry.com as opposed to the idnet I used or used to with the Nokia ?
I think there will be another email address, but you can just ignore it and use your usual one.
That one appears to be on the '3' network. It may have their software bundled into it, which would be difficult to remove, even if you unlocked it. My advice would be to get a T-Mobile or a SIM free one (SIM free is factory unlocked, for any network, but would be more expensive to buy).
If you unlock the one you've got, it would probably void the warranty, but it isn't illegal. You might want to lose yourself here for an hour or two... ;)
www.crackberry.com
Well where to start hee hee ,once the box is opened you cant take it back to Argos so thats that,I could give it to my Joanne but then again ,The phone is now unlocked so bang goes the warranty so now looks like Im committed to it although it isnt all bad news well its not bad at all really time to sit and read and play and then take it from there but I have still that up grade to either go for which means another new phone on the right network or not.....decisions decisions ;D
Time to see if I cant bugger this one up now
Don't try too hard
David never has to.
If you look on the Crackberry forums, there is lots of useful info there, David, and ways to restore or reinstall your phone's operating system if you manage to muck it up too much. :)
You sure that shouldn't read when?
;D
 Now now ye of little faith ;D
Of course your are right ;D
;D
At least with these, if you bugger it up, you can wipe it and reinstall. Just make sure any data is backed up. :)
I have no data ;D
Got a little disc what are supposed to do with that ?
It's a coaster
:zip: ;D
At a guess, install it on the PC and use a USB cable to synchronise data.
Or take it to a desert island and play it? ::)
But David would have no signal for his berry. ;)
He wouldn't need to unlock it either.
Ha ha Its true I am working in the time worn "David" way...the think wont allow me to set up email  I have managed to connect it to the router and the disc thingy actually fits into the new pcs disc holder (thats the first time ) we will see but looks like Joanne may have a very good day ;D
The girls seem fond of Blackberrys ;)
You'll need to be on a BlackBerry tariff to use the email and internet services, David. Contact T-mobile and they should sort you out.
I'm thinking of getting a blackberry too as one of the jobs I saw recently required blackberry support experience.

Thanks Simon and here is me struggling as well silly me  I will email Tmobile Im assuming its the follow the manual bit that I should contact them and that disc or software my phone isnt listed so didnt download any of it
Text BB1 to 879 to add the booster for just £5.10 a month
Finally solved it I think emailed them and got this back immediatly (so fast) so now I can spend the rest of the night trying to set it up ;D
The text is only for Tmobile people but put it there for help in future for anyone
That's useful, David. Have fun! ;)
On O2 you have to be on a Monthly Blackberry contract or Pay and Go Text and Web for Blackberry or order the Blackberry bolt on for £5 a month via 2425

All the email accounts have now been set up and it was so easy I did waste my money a little as T mobile would have done all this for free still all done now and suddenly the phone has so many features and it has been saved from the bin :thumb:
Thanks for your usual support I will wear it with pride ;D
Enjoy the phone. :thumb: There's no escape with 'push' email
This is brilliant
I love BlackBerrys! I could easily be tempted again.
This is unreal Simon and so easy I am really enjoying myself here and unlike the Nokia which I just could not get at all this is a breeze .I have never been able to send email from that phone and half the things I could not access but this !
For a little while tonight I thought Joanne had been lucky but I have just ordered the odds and ends for this from Amazon ,in car cherger and screen protector and something else lol.
To think I went against this last year .... doh well its a good buy indeed and had a good offer on the Nokia apparently you love them or you dont.......I dont ;D :thumb:

Blackberrys are great phones, Justina went back to hers, I can't get on with them, to fiddly to type on
I find it easier than the Nokia Gary to be honest ,I do have small hands though but the layout is different (letters etc) but also I am finding it easy to navigate and really love the tracker its so smooth ...

Glad its working for you, Nokia really have gone down hill sadly, Justina tried a N8 it was awful, buggy cumbersome not at all intuitive and stopped receiving texts, something which they all seem to have an issue with after a update, the texts are there but never show not great when her boss texts her. You cant really wrong with a Blackberry. :thumb:
:thnks: Gary I wont look elsewhere now in fact ;D The Torch looks good ;D
Glad you like it, David. The thing I love about BlackBerrys is that they just work! :thumb:
Yes Simon this is so true so easy I know Im not the brightest star when it comes to electronics although not the dimmest either this is so straightfoward and I took another look last night and Argos do one for T mobile for £149 which was the one I thought I had reserved this one was dearer and I got the last one with money off and a £10 voucher off my next purchase ,well I need a card for it

They do Simon, but they are more email-business orientated, I never check my emails that often, I have gone back to being old fashioned and calling people ;D
Sadly, Blackberrys don't just work. 'WiFi' BIS connections can be a bit hit and miss depending on the make and model of router being used. My BB9700 worked flawlessly with my old Netgear DG834G and the DGN3300 but not the DGN1000. There are a myriad of forums on the subject. WiFi will connect but often the WiFI icon remains 'greyed out' showing that a BIS WiFi connection has not been established. If you just want WiFi browser access then there is a workaround. Apart from that and the odd memory leak, and battery drain, I would not be without my BB.
I had the touchscreen Storm, and loved it, but unfortunately, they apparently won't accept the new 6.0 OS. I don't think I could manage the keyboard on the Curve / Bold ranges, but admittedly, haven't tried one.
You need delicate fingers... :shake:
I have ;D

Am currently weighing up the Curve 9300 (would like the Torch but O2 don't offer it on P&G)
Just installed the desktop software and it was so easy now the Blackberry has even more features Im having fun ;D I see Tmobile have the Storm which I could have if I wanted it  well its an upgrade ;D
Here I am just about to order a memory card and went to check how to install one and a 2 GB has been installed already (silly me) ;D checking the ad and it comes with one free thats good then isnt it .......
Love the voice commands as well for the call options works really well and registered it with my router so easily and god thats fast ( why would I use it via the router is there any advantages )
Just asking 8-)

Cant you get a sim free one Mitch, they must be similar prices to the P&G ones?

The Storm would be an older operating system, David, so a step backwards.
That should be the 97 something model ;D but I like this one at the moment Simon shame I have nearly finished most of the set up but I love it worth every penny ;D

Just seen the Torxch on P&G, £459 :eek4: whereas the 9300 is £179
The curve will run BB 6 so won't be on an old OS, when I know whats happening with work I'll put an order in.

I think a lot of people are thinking like that now Mitch, new gadgets are great but its a case of whats happening with personal finance and the economy and how now its April the cuts will really feel :( I'll not be purchasing anything new for fun for a while, unless its broken.
I've got a broken Storm if you're interested, Gary. ;)
How did you break it Simon?
I got annoyed with it and threw it, Mitch. Unfortunately, something hard was in it's trajectory. :red:
So, don't stand anywhere near Simon when he's using a phone. ;D
It gave me an excuse to buy the Storm 2, though. ;D

Glad you put this on here Simon ;D
I shall wait with you as this one is barely out of the wrapper ;D
Autumn storms, we've barely got into April. ;D
Depends on which hemisphere you are in. ;)
:music: Heesphere ,I love a party with a happy Hemeshpere :music:
:grn:
Going to pick up a Blackberry Curve 9300 from the O2 store tomorrow.
Its like your first kiss ;D
Enjoy
Cheers, will be on here tomorrow night while setting it up
Good Im free then I can enjoy it as well
how long did you charge it for?
2 hours max the battery was charged when I opened the box
Well I'm opting for the Pearl 9105 in Black because I'm used to a numeric pad and I find wide-bodied phones hard to grip due to my dexterity issue.
Sadly only one of my local stores has one in but when guy checked he was not sure whether it could be a return (I never buy second hand hardware because I'm never sure whether it's been treated with the same care I treat mine) so have just just ordered from the O2 site so hopefully it'll be here on Tuesday.
Good luck, Mitch.
:thumb:
Cheers, it'll be handy to be constantly on top of my e-mail, particularly at the moment.
Has anyone tried to use one on a non-BB tariff or without the bolt on?
Can you still use Blackberry Internet Service (I'm not bothered about messenger)
I don't think so, Mitch, no, as the internet and email service is enabled through the carrier.
Didn't think so as RIM also take a cut I gather.
Nevertheless a fiver isn't bad.
I'm on a SIM only deal with O2, and I pay £20 per month for something like 600 minutes (unlimited to other O2 customers), 1200 texts, and unlimited data. I could probably afford to reduce it to lower calls and texts, but I like not having to worry about how much it's costing, or going over my allowances.
My aversion to mobile contracts is that sometimes I have to make calls to 0845 numbers like for a couple of bills I pay and they sting you for that (never use my work desk phone for personal business because we did once have quite a stern mail from our Network Services Manager about the bills)
Some of my colleagues thrash it but I can always say any calls out from my line are work related.
I can still remember when 0800 calls were free from mobiles. It's why I like companies to offer geographic alternatives these days.
I need to look up an alternative for FD on say no to 0870
An M&S credit card I had (HSBC backed) now paid off and closed after they jacked up the interest used to have 0845 and a geographic one for stolen, tried to ring the geographic one and it knows you are calling from the UK and tells you to call back on the 0845 one. grrrr
Fair play to both IDNet and Zen, they both have geographic alternatives.
Any decent company should, if they want our business, Mitch.

Cheers, sounds familiar as they are in Leeds, think I found it a while back but forgot to store it.
How you getting on with your Crackberry Blackberry David?
Mine is due to arrive sometime today.
Have decided to sell my Blackberry because I really don't need the e-mail feature and have learnt what I needed to know about it.
Back on my 6700 now.
What do you prefer about the 6700, Mitch?
slightlky slimmer and prefer the straightforward keypad.
In addition as I sit in front of a PC all day at work and have one at home I don't really have a need to have access to e-mails as soon as they arrive so don't really need to spend a fiver per month on the bolt on.
I empathise with the latter point, mobile broadband really would be wasted on me for the vast majority of the year.
Coupled with the fact dongles are generally c*ap anyway.
;D
They're good enough for the few times I use them. :)
