Title: Scam warining
Post by: Ray on Mar 24, 2011, 11:24:24
Beware there seems to be a new scam/phishing email doing the rounds with a PDF attachment, I've received the following message twice this morning: -

Thank you for ordering from Puremobile Inc.

This message is to inform you that your order has been received and is currently being processed.

Your order reference is 408597.
You will need this in all correspondence.
This receipt is NOT proof of purchase.
We will send a printed invoice by mail to your billing address.

You have chosen to pay by credit card.
Your card will be charged for the amount of 869.00 USD and "Puremobile Inc." will appear next to the charge on your statement.
Your purchase information appears below in the file.

Puremobile Inc.

Thanks, Ray. I got one from 'HSBC' this morning, asking me to click a link, which was http://www.guaracitur.com.br/wages/IBlogin.html. Must try harder. :)

It's always slightly unsettling when you get ones saying your card has been charged, even when you know you haven't placed an order.

The first thing I do is check the account online. Then I report the scam attempts. Then I create wax dolls representing the scammers and stick pins in them. ;D

Trouble is, it might not appear on the account for a couple of days, but I guess it would show as a pending charge, if there was anything there.  Or, you could ring the card company.

Usually it would show as pending, but sometimes companies are quite last posting amounts, so a call would then be necessary. The wax dolls, though, as essential.  ;D

Just received number 3, all apparently coming from different sources when you look at the headers.

I wondered why the guy next to me at work suddenly started writhing in agony for no apparent reason  ;D

I have had a few odd ones in the last week, from .ru and .it addresses, since I do not know anyone that uses .ru or .it and these were scams I just blocked the domains.

So much for online banking making things easier, Mitch.  ::) You have to be more vigilant than ever these days.
