I've recently used these article to configure the security software on my Mac and found them very useful. (I'm using the OS X application firewall and Intego VirusBarrier X6.)

Why do need an umbrella when it's not raining.
If you feel the need to run a AV Sophos free AV for Mac is much less intrusive and does not mess with the Mac as much as the overly expensive and cumbersome intego virus barrier which does not get good reviews on the apple users site, tbh there are better ways to harden your mac without that program. Just my opinion.
