Have noticed a few websites taking an abnormal amount of time to connect to, either 30 seconds or just fails and shows a blank page for the last 15 minutes.
Anyone else getting this too?
I had some glitches a moment ago. Not sure what's going on. Websites I could view a few minutes ago aren't available anymore, but the site is still up according to web-based tools.
yep, facebook a few other websites and ps3 wont log on. some load straight away some not at all ???
Yes, I'm getting it too. Seems to be happening with some, but not all, sites. Started some time within the last hour.
I'm noticing a lot of US sites won't load (Twitter, Livejournal, Internet Traffic Report, Second Life - those are the ones I've just tried to ping and they all had 100% packet loss). UK sites seem okay at the moment. Looks like something fell over between Blighty and SoCal ;D
Can't connect to battle.net, got booted from playing WoW a few minutes ago. Some US sites not loading, can't access Orange email etc. Something's up.
I can access the sites fine from a JA net link. I'm getting unknown host from a DNS response on this line though.
Having the same problems, everything is 404'ing (well at least the stuff I'm trying to view is) and it's been like this since around midnight.
http://www.shopto.net/ 404's
http://www.scnsrc.net/category/films/ 404's
http://www.gametrailers.com/ 404's
It's pretty knackered at the moment.
Yeah, it's not just DNS - I can't access the IPs either. Either IDNet or BT routing has gone kaput. A friend on LLU is okay so it's not a general UK thing.
Desaan - I can access gamestrailers but not the other two.
Well I hope this forum doesn't go down the tubes as well, because I just checked it on my 3G phone and am getting 'could not locate remote server' error messages. No way of checking the forum if my net goes bloop? Argh!
Something funky is definitely up, I can access gametrailers now whereas before it would 404 over and over for 10 minutes of trying (other two still don't work)
I can't even access http://my.ebay.co.uk but can connect to http://nfl.com (obvious U.S hosted site)
What gives? ???
Thought it was just me, but yeah I can't access some web sites either. They work fine from my 3G, a tracert indicates timeout after IDNet Telehouse.
Glad to see it's not just me. ;)
Definitely something weird with routing. All my DNS has gone kaput as I use a free DNS service which must be based in the US or something. I can nslookup the default idnet DNS servers but a lot of addresses are failing completely, so I assume a routing issue is stopping it being able to get to the root level servers.
Wonder how wide spread this is.
Perhaps peering has gone haywire again. Or the recently rebooted gw5 is misbehaving. I guess it's time for an early night!
There's certainly an outage somewhere.

LOL that is not a bad idea at all. I should be in bed now anyway really as I have Parkour training on Saturdays.. Lots of jumping around to be done. Makes a nice change from sitting on my arse on the Internet all day. ;)
Hopefully it'll all be sorted by morning.. Ok it's morning now, but hopefully later in the morning then.. :)
Hi folks, just joined IDnet... and yes I can't log onto PSN or visit many websites either. Video streaming was screwy just after midnight too.
I won't let this negative experience sway my initial thought of IDnet :P

I'm currently talking to over 20 other people via comms, all on different ISPs and I'm the only one that appears to be having problems.
Same here
intermittent loading of facebook
can't log in to games
cant get on the forums of games..
Annoying!?

Just at IDNet then by the sounds of it.
Just tried visiting the network status site - Network Status (http://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/service_status_consumer/ss_cat/2468,2470)
It didn't load :P
ohhh dear

Same here
I guess given the latish hour and the fact it's been like this for a few hours we won't be expecting a resolution any time soon. The IDNET service status is all green, but I guess that must be manually updated and since it hasn't been.....I guess nobody is on it.
Thanks for welcome, karma feels nice against the skin.... ;D
Sounds like there is a hamster somewhere in the great Internet machine that needs feeding. Or replacing :pat:
Looks like my late night gaming is ruined! :'(
bed time for me
Heh its never good when the OpenDNS website won't open either!!
I suppose I should probably try out this sleep thing... I'm not very good at it mind.
Well I work odd hours, so I'll be up till mid morning at least which makes it all the more frustrating that the problem hasn't been resolved or even acknowledged on the IDNET service status rss. A non functioning internet connection for me during this time of night means you may as well cut my head off because lets be honest it's not as if I can go sit in the garden or nip out to the shops for a bit, there isn't a lot to do!
Well.... you COULD sit in the garden I suppose... best take a warm blanket and plenty of Bovril to keep you going though ;D
Seems to be more than DNS as I sent that via a vpn and it worked, but still couldnt connect to the site (Toms hardware). Those having 404 errors are interesting, that dosnt sound like routing tho.
You can use http://www.daveproxy.co.uk/ or something to browse for now
Tracert seems to time out after xe-1-0-0.mpr2.lhr3.uk.above.net [64.125.27.174].
Daveproxy with the network site shows a problem in Manchester - this is new as it was clear only a hour or so ago.
Yet another issue on IDNET. These problems never seem to happen when we actually have availability to the IDNET helpline. Thank god for BTinfinity, where I'll be moving to soon.

As in BT's Fibre and ISP service.... I'd rather use dial-up. ;D
Same problem here. Half the websites won't load, and can't connect to any blizzard server. At least MSN is working! :fingers:
Have to say over the last few months i've had a number of problems with my connection dying for a few hours at a time. Mostly at night rather than at peak though. No idea if its IDNET or BT to blame but either way it's getting annoying now :'(

Rather a service that tells me it's errors than one that completely ignores them.
There was an outage at Linx tonight. They have now resolved the problem by replacing a switch card.

Linx are getting quite unreliable recently it seems.
Thanx for the update Simon :thumb:
Hmmm, definitely still problems for me, pages timing out etc.
Still a lot of unreachable sites, also effecting any chance of online gaming.
It goes from slow loading to non responsive constantly. >:(
Same here. Been slow all day for me. :-\
I won't pretend to know who Linx are Simon, but you better go and give them another kick up the arse!
That's the London Internet Exchange, a lot of UK traffic passes through there: https://www.linx.net/pubtools/trafficstats.html
Slowly gotten better for me over the past hour, however Steam remains unable to connect at my end (along with a couple of other sites). Thanks for the info and let's hope everything is resolved soon!
e: Steam seems to be working now along with everything else. All good for me.
Broadly speaking I think LINX (London Internet Exchange) allows ISPs to exchange data directly rather than having to rely on other networks.
Sites that were hit by the switch card failure are slowly coming back for me now so it should be the same for everyone else.
Thanks for the update Simon.

That does seem to be the case here as well.

Mine seems to be getting worse.
I was playing an online game, and listening to an online radio station.
The game conked out several times, so gave up with that and started a shell session on a couple of remote servers. The US based one dropped the connection but the UK one stayed up so I continued working on that.
Now both are up but are veeeeeeeerrrry slow.
And the online radio is having buffering issues.
I'm guessing that even though this is supposedly fixed now, it'll probably cause problems throughout the weekend...

BTW are things working again now? It seems ok from my brief wander round.
It seemed to be a slow fix in that it took a while for some sites to become reachable again but it all seems fine now.

Thirded, or is that fourther? ;D :welc: :karma:
Thanks for the welcome guys :)
Just to report, things are still seemingly a little slow occasionally, but on the whole, things seem to be returning to normal.
I've actually been seeing slow loading pages for various sites recently. I assumed it was due to the problems I had a few weeks ago, but it's still happening today.
www.deviantart.com
www.flickr.com
www.twitter.com
www.facebook.com
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/
All of the above have slow loading problems. Deviant art is a bit of a law unto itself though, so I can never really say if it's at their end when it's slow, considering the amount of people using it. Flickr though I've never had a problem with, but in the last few days it's been slow loading. I just tried twitter and that took a few seconds to load the homepage, and also I have echofon installed in Firefox so I don't have to visit the site. Occasionally it can't resolve the page to pull my info through, probably due to the same reason. Last night Facebook just wouldn't load at all, around 12:30am then was extremely sluggish for 10 minutes, then was slow shortly after. Yesterday afternoon I couldn't even get to the Steam forums!
There have been quite a few other sites I've had problems with too. Initially I thought it may be my routers blocking DNS IPs or something similar, but checking my logs the router hasn't blocked anything, nor the firewall or AV. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I do have the router set to auto detect DNS rather than inputting it as I used to. I suppose it could just be increased loads of these sites due to kids being off school
Averaging about 4 seconds to load a page here, Niall, for the first and last. The rest are pretty much instant. Given the time of day I'm checking, I'd say server load or congestion are the only possible answers.
I wonder if the first and last are solely 'across the pond' based servers?
They're all showing as American sites for me, Steve.
Edit: no matter, some fluke server configuration glitch.
