16th Feb will see Windows7 SP1 released to users with MSDN & Technet accounts and a week later to the general population.

I wonder what they'll break?
All your mods
We only have admins now. ;D
I've been playing with Server 2008 R2 SP1 release candidate for a few weeks with no issues. (Needed it for some specific changes to the Hyper-V stuff.) I'll probably grab it off TechNet as soon as it's released and try it over next weekend.

God, I hate people who will not move with the times, Windows 7 is great. >:D
It's OK, Den, but then so's a trip to the dentist. ;D
Why would you take your laptop to the dentist?
So I can converse while he's drilling! ;D
The best way with a dentist is to hold one of his testicles in your hand while he is drilling. He wont dare hurt you incase you have a reflex action. My dentist is a woman so it does not work for me. >:D
Why only one, Den, go for broke. ;D
Win7 SP1 is basically only a round up of all the patches already given out and will do very little for those who have kept their systems updated.
That's me. :)
I'm waiting for the funds to buy a new system to accumulate but will be getting Windows 7 Pro so can use XP mode for some stuff.

I find XP and Vista software works fine anyway.
Except anything which works at very low levels.
Tried Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones under Vista and the save game didn't work at all, even with UAC switched off.

This has been true pretty much since Windows 2000/NT where the hardware was abstracted completely.
There is only two pieces of software I have not got running properly in Windows 7.
The first is Visual Basic 3 for Windows 3.1 - I guess that *is* a little old now. The other is a Windows 98 game which I have traced down to a stupid bug in the DLL file for the Bink video playback. Probably the game is absolutely fine but it hangs on the intro cinematic. Sigh.
I had problems with save games in KOTOR2, but I simply moved the entire game directory to my Documents folder, and ran it from there and it was fine. I suggest you try that with Prince: TTT if you can.

Like drivers? :(
I was REALLY cheeky. Got out my 5 year old bluetooth usb adapter. No vista drivers or anything. The website for support had discontinued the model. So what did I do? Download the drivers for the new model and hope for the best. Seems to be working. ;D

No compatibility mode? It usually springs from moving the save game location. IE XP is "Program files/Prince of persia" etc. But Vista/win7 stops it accessing it. Other games are "mydocs/games/save" or similar. But am I right in saying Win XP/Vista and 7 all have different locations for Mydocuments?

Me too. But Got it working in 7 by using compatibility mode, as said, to save in the games directory. However, stopped playing as the game crashed too much due to bad programming. :(
I have had surprisingly few crashes with KOTOR2. It might be worth investigating the graphics driver, I guess, and make sure you haven't got any FSAA tomfoolery going on in the NVIDIA/ATI control panel. I also set scaling to fixed aspect ratio so as to avoid the dreaded fat screen effect on a widescreen monitor.
I've had to discard a GeForce 5200 FX graphics card and my trusty old Promise UltraATA controller 'cause Windows 6.1 doesn't support them. :'(
Don't know about the UltaATA controller but doesn't Nvidia's Geforce drivers still support it?

Not on Windows 7. :( I had to buy an FX 6200 to replace it.
Didn't fancy one of the all singing, all dancing new ones then?

Had to be be PCI - for my workstation box with two cards driving five monitors (used to be 3 cards - thank goodness for ATI's triple outputs!).
Blimey Giz, I thought having two monitors at work was extravagant!
I've only got two and thatvwill shortly be going down to one plus laptop screen :(
Damn hotdesking and office moves and smaller desks!
Without my headset (not that I'm bothered  ) and being a bit bored I've decided to put my Technet account to good use and I'm currently downloading SP1. Well to be exact I'm downloading a Windows 7 iso with the SP1 integrated as I fancy a clean install.

If you don't hear from me again you know why! :P
I haven't installed SP1 onto any of my 7 boxes yet but yesterday I installed a fresh Server 2008 R2 SP1 onto my fledgling private cloud without any troubles. Might take a brave pill tomorrow and upgrade my least important netbook to SP1.
Just installed it now. Seems no obvious differences from before. Oh well.
Installed it on both my computers now and they still run nice and smooth. ;D
Do you have to actively search for this as it hasn't come up in any optional update list. Although I'm rather irritated by the SQL server optional update constantly being there when I don't have any SQL server on this system!
Niall you can right click and "hide" any update that appears that you don't want. That should stop it appearing again.
Okay, that's weird. I have 3 updates but Windows hasn't notified me of any of them. That's weird. SP1 is one of them too.
Strange, as that was working only 2 days ago. 73mb is a bit small for a service pack ???
