I'm moving to Chippenham next week (somebody has to!)...
It was in the earliest group of exchanges to be FTTC enabled, and BT's checker says fibre is available for the new address. However the order didn't get through IDNet -- apparently the local cabinet isn't ready yet and there's no sign of when it will be.
Seems like the usual BT cretinous half-a-job. I mean, why bother enabling an exchange for FTTC then leave out half the 'C's?
Anyway, has you seen a similar situation? Given that BT don't have a date for enabling the local cabinet, will I have to wait for BT to finish enabling the last Hebridean croft in fifty years or so before they plug the gaps elsewhere, or should I just wait a few months and check again?
It's happened in a number of areas, often due to planning problems. I'm afraid BT moves in mysterious ways and at their own pace. :(
Well, as it turns out I am in the same situation....
Was supposed to be FTTC enabled in Sept. The exchange has been upgraded, and I saw quite a lot of new cabinets being setup.... except next to the cabinet my house is connected to. Turns out the planning permission did not get through in time due to some major work already planned next to the cabinet.
So BT had to get the FTTC cabinet to another location nearby. The initial new date was Dec 31st. But they changed it to March 30th just before xmas. Since then, the new planning has been agreed, and the cabinet is now up. I saw the openreach folks running cables last week. Date is still March 30th, but I have good hope now. I do not know what the next step is once the cables are in place before the FTTC is enabled for resale, but should not be do far off.
If you can search planning application, enter your street or postcode and look for OPENREACH in the work description.
Planning is normally just a formality, but BT still need the green light from the council.
