I regularly back up a proprietary database to D:\ on a rewritable CD. I have Sonic DLA installed and use Windows XP with sp3. Until recently I had no problem and a compressed (zipped folder) file of about 28,000KB was created. Since installing Microsoft Security Essentials, backup does not work fully. The back up appears to run normally but then I get a message DynaZIP ZIP warning, New zip file left as: D:\*****. I then get DynaZIP ZIP error, Output file write failure, possible disk full (was replacing the original zip file). The saved zip file has zero KB content and the CD shows plenty of space. If I turn off MSE real time protection the process works normally but having backed up and then turned Real Time protection back on I later get the dreaded blue screen most times, which is most unusual. I have searched on line for clues as to solving this problem without success. Anyone any ideas?
I don't use MSE, but it sounds like it's breaking something. Can you restore to before you installed it?
Incidentally, I really wouldn't trust a re-writeable CD for backing up.
Nor would I, from my experience I use them about 5 or 6 times and they turn into coasters. :(
This sounds like a compatibility issue with your zip utility. Have you tried upgrading/patching it? You could also try skipping the zip stage I suppose as it does not sound very big.

I have found that I can back up to my hard drive and my external hard drive when the zipping works and a compressed file is created. This eliminates some of the issues. I would prefer not to use my external hard drive as I back up my database two or three times a week and my external hard drive has irreplaceable files and DVDs. What else could I use for my database back up that should work like an external hard drive and not require DLA.
I find Verbatim DVD +R 43498 discs are very good, life time warranty with an AZO Dye. They are supposed to be good for 100 years with images and data. I also back up to external drives. I don't use lightscribe etc so these are non printable ones but you can get plain silver ones for lightscribe and printers.
Have you tried adding D: to the list of excluded paths in MSE?

I had not tried it. But I have now and it works as it should. However I think in the longer term I will change to a USB flash drive. Thanks for your help. I will also advise the proprietor of the recording software who had no solution to offer. :karma:
Plus I think that you can exclude scanning of various file types i.e .zip
