Title: A student is looking for help
Post by: Rik on May 02, 2007, 14:30:34
...over on ThinkBroadband:

"I'm currently in my final year at Loughborough University completing a dissertation on broadband habits and future developments in the UK. I've published a questionnaire that forms part of my investigation and would greatly appreciate only 2-3 minutes of your time to complete it.

The questionnaire: http://www.my3q.com/home2/154/mtippett/62071.phtml

Thanks in advance to any forum user who participates. All information is confidential and will only be used in this piece of research."

Currently, his research is extremely distorted due to the questionnaire being completed by lots of fellow students with super-fast connections. You may like to go and set the demographic/speed levels straight. :)

Done!  And I must say, the results make interesting reading.
They could be very usefull to an ISP.  Would be a profitable sideline for the lad.  ;D

The more people who take part the better of course ..... still, he's not doing bad so far.

P.S.  I went to Loughborough you know!  MMMmmm, I was stationed there in 1949!!!   ;D ;D

Just done this myself.  Having once been a student undertaking research (and more than likely doing it again in the near future - damm CPD :-[ ) I know how difficult it is trying to get respondents to surveys and then interpreting the results.

What I was horrified to see  :o was the fact that so far only 17 of the respondents are female :(.
Come on all you other women who use the net out there - get over there and get filling the survey in :police:.

Another point is that (at time of writing this) 91 would go for a cheaper alternative???  Don't they realise you get what you pay for???

When I was getting my MAC from t*scal*, the operator asked me how much I would be paying for my connection with IDNET.  He was horrified when I told him £24.99 per month and said that t*scal* offered cheaper alternatives and included phone calls etc.  I told him I wasn't interested, I wanted a service that worked!

When I completed the survey, the results were clearly being skewed by all his student pals having been the primary respondents. Most of the population was under 25 with a better then 8Mb connection!

 Oddly enough, I have a friend studying fine art there at the moment. I always thought they concentrated on sports stuff there, but clearly not.

Sadly, it's true of the online world generally that men tend to dominate. We're delighted that we've gained more female members here recently, long may it continue.

The concept of service is something Tiscali don't understand, as you discovered. They work on headline price and very little propping it up. :(
