There isn't a 'right' forum for this post, so I decided to place it here. I can't run it as a poll either, as people will probably have multiple answers. I am just curious to see what the mix of OSs in use are.
For me, it's XP Pro x 1 (shortly x 2) and XP Home x 1.
2 x XP Media Center 2005 and 1 XP Home.
Vista 32bit home premium the reason i change was because i want to use dx10 for gaming, to be totally honest it works really well and i find things are alot more organised than with windows xp.
One major draw back is that you have to authorise most things even if you have premission, gets to be a pain in the bum but will probably get sorted later with a service pack.
XP Home, XP Pro and XP Media Center.
Bill and I are just like that :-*
Aren't we all, or at least most of us. ;) Come on you Linux users...
- Windows XP Pro x1
- Symbian OS (9.1) + S60v3 x1 (Nokia N80!)
- Palm OS4 - PDA which sits gathering dust
Interesting slant, Lance, I hadn't thought outside the box, so to speak, so I'd better add Palm OS5.
XP Pro, XP Home and Pocket pc windows 2005 (does that count) hope to try Ubuntu soon and have Solaris which I may try as well.

Ubuntu????............ Try PCLINUXOS far and away a better OS ;)
www.pclinuxos.com
4 PC's........all dual booting Windows/Linux
3 with XPSP2 Home and PCLinuxOS P93a.
1 with XPSP2 Pro and PCLinuxOS TR4.
As soon as the final release of PCLinux is out XP Home will disappear from 2 machines straight away and the XP Pro will only make very rare appearances.
XP Pro x 4
Pockrt PC 2003
FreeNAS
Vista on desktop and XP on laptop.
Would love to give Linux a try though to see what it's like!

Then do it!!!!!
Many of the Linux systems come on a "Live CD"........... this means you can d/load and burn your own iso file to CD or buy the CD from someone like TuxDiscs.
The Live CD can then simply be booted on your Windoze desktop and run in memory. This will allow you to try all the feateures without any alteration to your system.
You would notice that it is a bit slower than a full install but it is a good way of trying several flavours of Linux before you install.
I have tried literally dozens of different Linux distros and nothing beats my favorite PCLinuxOS.
This is the perfect choice for anyone wanting to test the water and has an awesome community behind it. www.pclinuxos.com Everything you could need in one download ;D
Dual booting ....... XPSP2 Home and Vista32 Business.
;D
Oh dear I suddenly feel ashamed of my collection:

1x Windows XP Home (laptop)
1x Windows Vista Home Premium (laptop)
1x Synology 101j Disk Station (NAS Device)

So,only 2 linux users so far ???
Only 1 Mac...
and 0 OS/2!
Is that still around, Lance? It seems ages since I've heard the phrase uttered...
I dare say someone somewhere in the world is still running it!

Try these links Rik.
http://en.os2.org/
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/os/warp/
http://www.os2hq.com/
IBM still supported OS/2 until the end of 2006 and it seems from these links it is still very much alive for a number of groups.
I remember it being launched. Seems a long time ago now - probably because it was. (http://bestsmileys.com/sad/6.gif)

Thanks for that, will go over and take a look at the site. I've got a 169GB free space on my hard drive, is this enough to partion it and run Linux as a "stand alone" OS?
Blimey :o - sounds like I really know what I'm talking about there doesn't it?lol Nope, don't have a clue (well perhaps a little bit of one!), but my interest is piqued enough to see what all the fuss is about ???. Plus I don't like the fact that MS seems to be dominating the market and occulting computer sciences and systems >:(!
I'm off on my travels this evening - from the NE Coast of Scotland down to the New Forest in Hampshire (a little over a 1000 mile round trip :o), so will start a thread on begining with Linux when I get back up the road next week.
Myd
;D ;D
You have enough free space to run several linux flavours!
Most people trying linux would only use @ 10-20GB as a maximum.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The New Forest must be popular this week,I am going there this morning, though only for a couple of hours.
Have a nice trip, Myd!
XP Home with SP2 ;D
BTW - been on IDnet for 3 weeks now and DELIGHTED.
Welcome to the forum, coolharvey. Hope you enjoy your stay here and with IDNet!
We like delighted customers. :) You'll find most of us pretty happy with our connections - it's one of the reasons this place is so laid back, there's rarely anything to get steamed up about!
XP HOME ( SP2)
XP Media Centre.
I did try a somewhat suspect edition of XP Pro, but I couldn't see any real benefits over Home Edition.. ;)

There's a bit more control, Inactive, but it's not hugely important for most people, more an office-oriented thing.
Well I use Ubuntu 7.04 on two machines, OS X on one machine and Windows Vista Home Premium on one machine.
Ubuntu is one of the most polished of the Linux distros imho, a lot of the other distos don't really seem professional to me. Dell will also be shipping Ubuntu which should give it a massive boost as the standard Linux distro.
