Some relations are looking for a basic cheapish desktop, and have asked my opinion on HP machines, such as this model from Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/G5206uk-Desktop-Pentium-LightScribe-Windows/dp/B00457WT4E/ref=sr_1_34?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1290193509&sr=1-34). They don't need anything too flashy, they are not mega gamers, and only use the PC for office tasks, emails, web browsing, etc. I have no experience of HP myself, so does anyone have an opinion on these?
Hp have always been good in my experience.
They have a huge price range of products, so I guess you get what you pay for.
I've got an HP Compaq P4 2.8GHz desktop that's been almost permanently on for over six years. It's full of muck at the moment because it needs a good clean but it still does everything I ask of it.
It's a real workhorse and it's never crashed.
I've never had issues with HP, anything which has failed has been fixed.

HP bought out Voodoo PC which was a shame as they made amazing PC's but HP are always pretty good.

I've got an issue with HP.
They made me redundant !! :mad:
That aside, Compaq/HP products should be good and reliable, not usually cutting edge but if that's not required you can do a lot worse.
The only problem of recent, is their customer service is now based in Asia......make of that as you will.... :whistle:

It was so well made as well Simon, Canadian import, back in the day when the AMD 4800 +X2 pounded Intel, and the 7800 GTX was the top card, long time ago now. I loved that Pc I did :bawl:
I would rather have an HP desktop than a laptop, the laptops are not the most reliable of things.

That said, my year old work laptop is still absolutely fine (as are he other 4 in the office) with no issues, and my personal laptop which must be about 3 years old is all fine other than the battery needing to be replaced due to it coming to the end of its natural life.

Mt 18.5" Acer ran Vista really well considering, never had to reinstall in over a year, it was a good machine.
I see a lot of HP laptops that are faulty each week, mainly NC6400, NC6910p & Elitebook 6930p's
Well hopefully my Elitebook will buck the trend!

Watch out for Aldi doing an offer before Xmas, Gary, they usually include a TV tuner.
