Title: ipod touch help please
Post by: klipp on Nov 18, 2010, 18:57:04
Hi, not strictly a mobile device but close enough.  My ipod as of yesterday has no longer been able to connect to the internet via wLAN.  I've tried doing a full reboot on it but it hasn't helped.  I am a bit loathed to restart my router because it could lead to snr rises, and in any case my wireless printer and 2 laptops are all connecting normally.

When I look in the ipod wifi settings it says my local ip address is 169.254.135.120 which seems wrong because it's normally 192.168.0.* so I'm guessing that is a clue.  Anyone had similar experiences or could offer help?  Thanks.

Have you tried telling the iPod to forget the wifi network (possible through settings) and then reconnecting and re-entering the security details?

My first thought would be the full re-boot, but you've done that. As I don't know the device, I'm afraid I'm going to have to leave you to the tender mercies of others. :(

Or what Lance said. ;)

Yes @ Lance.  The password was accepted as correct.

I would get the iPod to forget the network as Lance suggested.

Settings>Wi-fi>Blue arrow next to networks name>Forget this network

then go back to the home screen and open Safari, choose you network from the pop up window and enter the password.

If that doesn't work then try

Settings>Wi-fi>Blue arrow next to networks name>Renew Lease

Thanks Lozcart.  Tried your suggestions but still no joy.

I am able to join other networks (neighbours, BTFON).  Just my own that is the problem.  I'm reluctantly starting to think a router reboot would be the next course action.

You could try a static IP setup for the 'touch' but I fear there may be only one solution

Have you tried a hard reset hold down home button and on/off switch until iPod turns itself off, ignore the slide to power off screen?

If so then I think a router reboot is the only choice.

A router restart did indeed fix the problem but at a cost of 200kbps to my downstream. :(

Glad you sorted it, maybe reboot the router again in the morning when you should get a better sync speed.

It it's a Netgear router and it happens again, try restarting the WiFi. I think you just need to hit the 'Apply' button on the WiFi settings page.
